Subject: Musselman leaving P-G

Ron Musselman has turned in his notice at the P-G. He's going to work for some Penn State sports website.

For someone who lives in SC, he was totally MIA during
Paterno's death. He barely had anything in the PG.

Well, let's see. Smizik takes a buyout, Dvorchak takes a buyout, (though both do blogs or whatever), Colin and Dejan bolt, Musselman leaves. They better hope Bouchette, Dulac, Molinari, Collier, Mike White, even Shelley Anderson hang around.
It is more of the exodus all around the newsroom there, and it is sad indeed. My guess is Ed, Jerry, Gene and Dave are too old to leave. But who knows? Dejan found something for more dough. Mike entrenched as high school king, been around a long time too. Shelley experienced, not sure what she would do. Cook they could lose. It is heading for cheap fix via kiddie corps all around, though. Got a college degree? C'mon in and work for half pay.

Two things: First, if you didn't see Musselman's byline in the last two-and-a-half months, you weren't looking at the right newspaper. He had tons of quality stuff on Paterno, including a great, very detailed obit.

Second: I would say there is trouble in PPG paradise - so many sports guys leaving in a relatively short period of time? What's up with that?

I'm not talking the last 2 and a half months.
I'm talking the week Paterno died.
Obit was in the can long before.

Monday - 1 story of 7 paragraphs that was a rehash of the school's press release.
Tuesday - 1 story of 4 paragraphs about recruits. No quotes, no reaction.
Tuesday - story about Jack Ham going to the viewing. Medium size.
Wednesday - story about new coach O'Brien. Was good.
Thursday - story about funeral procession. 1 quote from Twitter and 1 interview. Weak.
Friday - Nothing from him about memorial service. Many other stories were done by other staffers sent up there.

Sorry, was a very weak stretch by the PSU beat writer.

Smizik was past retirement age when he took the buyout. He writes more on the website than he ever did. Dvorchak is over 60 and has also had health issues. Dejan left for a better job and more money. Dunlap left because he said he had family issues. The issue is they're consistently replacing very experienced people with kids. The baseball job attracted some big name applicants from across the country. They chose to stay in-house with two kids who know nothing. They can't even generate off-season coverage and they're getting beaten consistently on stories by the Trib.

>> I hear what you are saying. Dejan jumped to the PPG's biggest rival, without looking back. He got a better offer, so good for him..but the PPG didn't try to keep him? Seems they would want to hang on to his Pirates experience but, as you point out, they instead fill that beat with kids. And I don't believe the Colin story. I am sure there is more to it. But we will never know for sure. It all comes down to the old adage....you get what you pay for, and it shows in their coverage.

Nobody should belive it. Dunlap's mouth finally bit off more than he could chew.

It's funny how those in the media can dig up dirt on the rest of the world to expose a story, but when it comes to one if it's own, it seems to go the opposite way.

And he's still allowed to work in the media, after the hatcht job he did on his old 'buddy' Stew. Life sure ain't fair.

You guys all realize Colin decided to leave the PG before he said what he said about Bill Stewart on the radio, right?

Your conspiracy theory about him being asked to leave the PG or being fired simply don't add up. Also Micco went on Sportsjournalists.com and said the exact same thing.

Gosh some of you seem obsessed with him. Seriously how many threads turn into a topic about him?

They all do because he's so important! We mention you then time how long it takes you to post a response because you do it every time. Then you usually whine about it on your fake Twitter account where you think nobody knows it's you. You know, the one where you defame people while you hide behind the fake ID?

He thinks nobody knows. Like there's anyone in else in town who hates John Perrotto and KDKA TV sports producer Mike Vokovcan. They are two constant targets. Like there's anyone else in town who pays attention to Chris Mueller on 93.7. That's his kindred spirit. Criminals always leave clues.

Must be nice to have all that free time.

FWIW, you know that you are accusing someone of something and are wrong here, don't you.
Yinzers is a listener of The Fan who has shown up at several remotes and who Perrotto has already found the identity out. What is the end game here? Is there a reason you continue to accuse the same person when it is clear it isn't him.

Correct. Perrotto has posted (not on here) its someone named Mike who used to work in Pittsburgh media.

So a random listener of The Fan has a major beef with the guy who's one of the TV sports producers in town? The producer is never on the air, so what would the source of that anger be? Let's remember that the producer being blasted by the Tweeter is the same guy who books Channel 2's Sunday Night Sports Showdown. And guess who appeared one time on that show with no return invitation?

Why would the Tweeter have so much hatred for Perrotto that he posts insulting comments about him and his wife, and also knows all the ins and outs of Perrotto's job hunting? If it's "just a fan," why doesn't he go over after someone bigger than a part-time writer for a suburban paper? Here's why Perrotto is the target. Perrotto dissed "someone" on sportsjournalists.com when the Post-Gazette resignation happened. That got him on the enemy list.

Don't kid yourself. The volume of the hatred makes it clear who is behind that Twitter account. It's most definitely an insider, and it's pretty clear who that insider is. They may get a stooge to claim he's the one, but only one psychotic has that level of hate for specific people. He's a crazy man, playing his crazy games and he has a lot of time to do it.

I thought the story went this way: Another reporter wrote a story about the partying coach-in-waiting and Colin gave up the other reporter's source. Is that how it really went down?
