Subject: Has Wexell burned another bridge

I heard that Jim Wexell has been bounced from 93.7 The Fan after a tiff with one of the part time show hosts.

Wexell has been using his Twitter feed to fire some major shots at P-G Steelers beat guys Bouchette and Dulac.

Wexell has already been dumped from a couple of radio jobs in town for dust ups with Madden.

Wexell is a tough SOB with a lot of confidence in his opinions, but he's being self destructive and running out of places to work.

Oh just wait till you hear what Wexell did to that part time host to get axed. It is unreal. The guy is completely loco.

I couldn't stomach his arrogance with the equally arrogant Paul Alexander when we had the radio on at our tailgates prior to the Steeler games.

However, it seemed like any interaction I heard from him sounded odd, and borderline argumenative when Bouchette would come on.

Any details on the dustup?

[> [> Wexell - Accurate / Reliable -- C.atching A.ccuracy, 09:43:18 02/20/12 Mon [1]

Has anyone chided Ed Bouchette for outwardly questioning the theory of one, Mr. Wexell, on the fact that former Indy Colts Head Coach Jim Caldwell would surface as a possibility for O.C. ? Ed acted as if it was a ludicrous idea. Jim Wexell, the best beat man on the Steelers, took to his investigative skills to surface Caldwell and link past friendship & coaching tenure w/ the possibility. Sure enough the 'crazy' idea that Wexell drew up came to fruition. Wex was the only member within our cohort in Pittsburgh (or nationally) that seemed to actually provide a satisfactory list of names that actually turned out to happen as he reported.

Ironically, it's been reported by at least a handful of common Steeler fans / Twitter-goers that the might PG Ed went crazy on the 'block' button on Twitter for anyone who had questions about an apology to Mr. Wexell or why he came down so hard on the idea of Caldwell being a possible candidate. Yes, very classy, "Dean."

Ed B. and his PG cohorts were probably still so stunned to lose their source inside the South Side thought process that rational thought-process couldn't take place.

This very topic illustrates the difference between a hard-working die-hard (Wexell) and some of his questioning peers from the Pgh. Establishment Media - Take the NFL Draft as the classic example. Wexell works year-round at the craft and relies on his abilities, investing precious time in the craft, listening and debating possibilities with other respected draft peers, and just an overall grind-it-out work ethic in order to get to the answers for the draft, specifically narrowing down the Steelers outlook.

Meanwhile, many establishment media darlings (particularly PG'ers w/ chirping Uncle Bruce in the background) start covering the draft, oh, say... mid-April. And that is Grade-A coverage? That is the standard?

Does the PG, perhaps, even feel at least slightly RESPONSIBLE for Bruce Arians' firing? Should they?

A good source close to the situation said Wexell is not fired.

So who would plant a false story, defend Mark Madden, criticize someone working a coveted Fan pre-game show, and also work in newspapers long enough to remember the Standard Observer?

I can't think of anyone at all.

The guy's worked at only 2 places the last 30 years, full-time, and rose to the top of the sports departements at each place. Are you just talking about pre-game radio shows here?

If those are the places where most of us laugh at him, then yes.

I'm still chuckling over him talking about the Steelers needing to 'hire the Pitt kicker, whoever he is' because he kicked a long FG at Heinz Field. He kept repeating himself as if he couldn't remember he made the remarks previously.

I'm not surprised he has worked that long. Didn't he also get into a shoving match with another media member during a Tomlin press conference?

Funny how these things just happen to him.

No. He didn't. Get your facts straight.

So it's a Pitt thing. Heh heh. I don't think he's been on the Showdown since he said Wannstedt would be fired within five years.

Maybe the truth hurts some of the advertising heavies around town. Maybe even our anal retentive friend here.
