It's basically advertising - or rewarding advertisers - in the news pages. Not sure if the hardware is a Times client, but it stinks to high heaven.
They've been doing one of these each week for the cover of their community pages. They featured Crivelli Ford, a BIG advertiser, in one of their previous "stories."
Meanwhile, they regularly ignore news happening in their community.

It's like the Westmoreland Trib constantly touting the Westmoreland Museum of American Art several times a week or month just because Dick Scaife bequeathed a lot of art to them and they feel they have to pay constant homage. The paper functions as the Museum's unofficial PR wing as local news coverage except crime news goes to hell.

No, it's not similar at all. BCT is doing puff pieces on advertisers (or potential advertisers). That's not the same as shilling for a museum that was a pet project of the former publisher.

Whether it's a business or a nonprofit, it's crass and self-serving either way. The the hick-town nature of the Greensburg Trib is similar to the BCT. Both papers sometimes gloss over questionable activities of local governments in favor of what they consider "community journalism."

This is ridiculous. Frank Craig and the Greensburg "team" led by McFarland have "Westmoreland Museum on the brain" disease.

The mission seems to be to convince readers to PLEASE think kindly of our dear, departed founder. PLEASE!!!

There's not a single mention of Dick Scaife in the story. It's a story about Greensburg architecture, and how two buildings costing tens of millions have contributed to the town's look.
There are plenty of other legitimate reasons to criticize The Trib. This was just whiny nonsense.

Sorry, but it's not whiny nonsense. The story had some self-serving aspects and did not have to mention Scaife by name. Conti lauded the Greensburg Trib facility itself. This is an ugly industrial building and the photo proved it. The Museum and Seton Hill University are two of the Greensburg newsroom's favorite topics. Would the Museum get so much coverage if Scaife hadn't bequeathed so much to them? They don't have to say his name in every story. As of last year, this became the Museum CEO's official title.

"Would the Museum get so much coverage if Scaife hadn't bequeathed so much to them?"

Nope. And neither would the Carnegie if Andy hadn't funded it.

yeah, what he said.

Imagine, a newspaper that actually writes about art, history and architecture in its own back yard instead of covering New England.

The CEO is not named, and neither is Scaife, in your original story.
Your argument just keeps shifting to support your apparent hatred for all things Scaife and Trib.
Too bad, your handle made me really laugh. Please use your creativity for good, instead of misdirected anger.

I admire John Conti as a hell of a fine architecture writer. You don't have that at the P-G anymore. As far as the original poster, I searched the Trib website to see how many stories they have relating to the Westmoreland Museum. The results reveal a lot fit that category. Quite a lot. Try it and see.

Well, the Trib's roots ARE in greensburg, and it's a decent-sized institution there.

They should ignore it and be sending a team to Europe to cover architecture and museums there instead?

Ah, I think you nailed it! The post appears to be from the person who has been posting here incessantly for years. Easy to identify because it always comes back to the same theme: "The Tribune isn't a real newspaper, just a rich old fool's plaything and anybody who works there is just deluding himself by thinking he's in journalism."

Oh, so predictable, but I admire his diligence in posting the same tired message over and over and over and over....

These stories are obviously advertiser-driven and degrading. Overall, the BCT's content is sad, unimaginative, poorly written, and often worn-out recycled ideas. There's no connection to the communities it serves. Stories often are missed, or simply overlooked because the folks in charge don't recognize their interest. The awards it's won are sadly indicative of the poor state of the industry, and a joke next to the tremendous award-winning work it did in the past.

Sadly, you could easily substitute the name of any local newspaper -- or any newspaper at all these days

That blog makes the BCT look embarrassing every time that guy uncovers problems in their courthouse.

In the mean time, here's an old hardware store and ice cream stand!

The BCT doesn't care about anything journalistic, but they sure get aggravated when the Beaver Countian posts powerful investigative material and stories that regularly cleans the BCT's poorly-running clock. Certain jealous BCT reporters remind me of the faction of sub-standard Trib reporters who think getting a paycheck from a newspaper that barely qualifies as one makes them real journalists. There was a time the BCT was at the top for a paper its size. Those days are ancient history.

Typical slipshod BCT coverage on the employee charged with stealing $220K from the Ambridge church. Lame brief story in Sunday's paper with absolutely no original reporting. Just excerpts from the statement issued by the diocese. Nobody went to the church for Saturday evening Mass to see what the parishioners were told? Nobody attempted to interview any of them? Awful. Big story breaks in their backyard and they don't even try to cover it.
