Subject: Trib coverage of non-Pennsylania events

Earlier this week, the Tribune Review sent a reporter and photographer to Cleveland, of all places, to cover the Cavs' championship parade. Now I see that another photog and reporter covered the massive flooding is southern West Virginia.

Is it me or is this an odd use of resources? These stories are likely of little interest to local readers, and if so, there are plenty of other places to get much more comprehensive coverage.

Trying to make themselves seem big-time, as usual.

23 dead in flooding in a bordering state and you say there's no local interest in this?

The Trib is still in denial over cutbacks. They are not a national-level paper, and never were. Besides, with understaffing becoming the norm everywhere, even larger papers are having trouble. The only way to handle this is to work smarter and local. TTM and the PG as well no longer have the luxury of spreading their staff far beyond home base. If they're going to do major investigative stories, focus locally.

Cleveland is not that far, and let's face it, the rivalry between Pittsburgh and Cleveland is still strong. People in my office Downtown were streaming/watching the parade, and talked about it that day.
And I've been reading Aaron Aupperlee's coverage of West Virginia, and looking at his Tweets. It's strong, compelling stuff.
Having said that, I'm still not convinced that The Trib, which is woefully understaffed since the cutbacks, should be taking the time and the resources covering events outside its shrinking coverage area.
I've noticed that they've had Carl Prine covering more local stories, and that's a great call. It should be all hands on deck to cover LOCAL stories, and not churning out months-long projects, like that Mexican border piece, that you can get elsewhere.
It's time for The Trib leadership to stop thinking that they're a newspaper on the national/international stage. It's not.

Hello, it's summer, people! Like 90 degrees, vacation weather? Without Nasty Boy Trump and ISIL, what's happening? Not much. OK, Brexit, and market tank.
They were happy for Cavs, WV. For any story. To fill. Wake up! No prob either way. Pretty close, them Ohio and WV. Find a real complaint.

Wire services. That's what they're for.

No problem here with any Pittsburgh outlet. Major natural disaster in our backyard. People know people down there. They know Greenbeier. Criticizing TTM for this is reaching.

I hope you got the same sprinkling of ants in yer pants when the P-G went to Cuba and the Dominican Republic. You know, those dwindling resources, pretending to be big-time when colleagues are clutching pink slips, choking down buyouts and all.

I did. Shribman and friends also live in denial. The money isn't there at either place. PG did this Caribbean stunt for awards. No return on that investment.
