Subject: Wouldn't this be true of most all newspapers?

The Trib is offering buyouts to their employees, the reason given:
"As the media landscape and the habits of our readers continue to change, we must continue to adjust our expenses to keep pace and best meet the needs of our subscribers, advertisers, partners and employees,''
They're trying to stay in business. Wouldn't you think a hell of a lot of newspapers are struggling and trying to stay in business by cutting expenses?

Get serious. They are treading water but cannot stay in business. Having been propped up for years by the sugar daddy who created TTM solely for his amusement, he's gone and reality has set in.

They wrap their increasingly dire news in corporate-speak when they ought to tell the truth: "We offered buyouts to a sizable number of employees last year. Quite a few took them (and went freelance) but not enough. We made cutbacks and needing to make more cutbacks, we're trying buyouts again." They should add, "We charge 75 cents per copy (recently raised a quarter). The PG charges $ 2 per (recently raised 50 cents)."

What's the endgame though? What are trying to achieve other than just delaying the inevitable?

Maybe if Sheldon Adelson, the Scaife of Las Vegas, bought Trib Total they could stay in business. But he's too busy with his own playtoy: the Las Vegas Review-Journal. Hey, maybe if the Trib goes under he could hire Heyl, Zito and McNickle!
