Subject: The PG OWNED the trib in Pirates Deadline coverage

Dont' know if anyone else noticed, but the PG - and specifically, Stephen Nesbitt - *COMPLETELY* outclassed the Trib today in terms of Pirates trade deadline coverage.

MLB is getting to be like the NFL lately...national reporters getting the big scoops...but Nesbitt was in on a lot of rumors, had some quotes from sources...and sawchik and biertempfel did...........nothing. Absolutely NOTHING.

Kind of embarrassing that the chapter chairman of the BBWAA basically took the day off.

Wait I thought Biertempfel was either fired or taken off the beat. If so it's hardly fair to blame him for not being on the job....right??

It really doesn't take much to own the Trib any more, does it?

Is Trump-like hyperbole. Not sure what your motivation is, but The Trib had plenty of stuff as the day unfolded.
Overall, Nesbitt had better information, but The Trib had plenty as the day went on, including confirmation of Liriano before it was officially announced.
So be a little more credible in your Trib-bashing.

So whether you realize it or not, your definition of the P-G "owning" is that their writers retweeted the rumors/sources that the national guys have.

To think the P-G writers had any more inside info that the Trib writers is totally naive.

If Ken Rosenthal tweeted something, the P-G guys just passed that along. No scoops to be had.

Nice headline, but just factually incorrect. Biertempfel tweeted out the news at same time the other beat guys did. National media owned them all, which has been the trend. If you're going to hate, hate equally.

[> Mackey;s role at PG Re: The PG OWNED the trib in Pirates Deadline coverage -- RobertoSan, 20:35:28 08/04/16 Thu [1]

So is Mackey going to get the Pens blog now that Seth Rorabaugh is out? Seth was their best sports guy at using their blog format. I don't know why PG would have not promoted him intead of having to lure a Mackey.

Maybe the PG wanted a guy to blog who also has experience covering the team on the road, which I am sure will happen when Molinari needs time off. When did Sam Werner get moved to the Pens beat?

What happened to Shelly Anderson? Took a PG buyout? She was PG's #2 for the Pens beat at one point.

Werner moved to backup Pens writer last month. He traded places with Menendez, who will cover Pitt football.

Shelly quit the P-G at least a year ago after they took her off the backup hockey assignment. She was being moved to a "utility" role, which would have included high schools. She chose to quit, which is what they wanted. Gets another top scale salary off the payroll.

P-G didn't hire Mackey to write a blog. He's going to be the primary Pens beat person. Sam Werner is the backup. Molinari will be assigned elsewhere. You heard it here first.

Is Zeise still on Pitt hoops? He's been writing columns lately, at least on the digital version.
