Subject: A Referendum on DKPittsburghSports

Some thoughts about the DK Enterprise:

10 - Dejan's columns. What are we down to, like 1 a week? Oh, and his little Tuesday's takes feature which is not founded in fact at all. He just steps to the podium and rips whomever he feels like.

9 - Josh's Good Dudes. If I didn't know any better, the only good dudes in Pittsburgh are Penguins players/personnel

8 - His subscription count. Why is it so hard to provide hard data on this? He has some algorithm that he tries to justify to inflate his numbers.

7 - Turnover rate is downright embarrassing.

6 - Firing people via text message. Downright embarrassing.

5 - The Pittsburgh Riverhounds play-by-play man is the Pirates Beat reporter. Ouch.

4 - Tim Benz and Dejan in the same room? How wide are the door frames?

3 - Analysis: We do things that newspapers don't do.

2 - Come by a foam brick for $50 off of me. It doesn't mean anything but it bears my logo.

1 - For the last time, it's not a blog.

You missed an item:

#A: He must be doing something right if all his detractors are constantly going out of their way to knock out a small, niche, pay for content, local, sports website. It's that old saying "nobody ever tries to discredit the irrelevant"

Getting their asses absolutely kicked all over the parking lot on the only beat that matters in this town

I waited 18 months to subscribe - just because I cant stand the owner - subscribed 5 months ago - ended my subscription with my last payment in late June.

10 - I loved the idea of readers commenting - when the owner selectively chooses who he trolls, he lost me. Its pretty clear he went after the readers who weren't afraid of calling B.S. on different things that just appeared way out of line and he couldn't defend.

9 - Good Dudes - its just another way to pander to the different teams in town and get some goodwill. Rarely was a column about anyone who truly makes a difference by sacrificing money or time to help those who are less fortunate - its just a glorified article praising people for behaving the way they are supposed to behave.

6 - the subscribers need to know this - I always thought about subscribing just for a day under a different name to solely post a comment announcing how he fired Alan Saunders so those people who hold him in high regard would find out.

2 - the $50 foam brick idea was just so horrible of an idea, I wish he went through with it so the bad publicity could have followed. He actually deleted all comments related to the idea and even the few paragraphs he wrote about it in that Sat column when he announced the idea to just whitewash it from the site altogether which just screams that he knew it was a crap idea.

I am going to add a few of my own:

1. To criticize ex-employees in a passive-aggressive manner is such in poor taste. He never directly bashed Mackey but he made it a point to say his replacement would be able to handle a tough beat like the Stelers ( which was basically saying Mackey was too soft or nice to cover the team)

2. The segment of subscribers who would believe anything he wrote - I think he could tell people that drinking motor oil would extend your life 10 years and those idiots would go buy a case of Pennzoil and have one with their dinner each night. Then, the over the top ass-kissing is so pathetic ( I am sitting at my desk crying - this is the greatest thing I ever read, you deserve a Pulitzer)

If there is KARMA in this world, that guy has a boatload of bad stuff coming his way.

I think the brick thing did happen, didn't it? Didn't they post a tweet showing a box full of foam bricks (anyone with toddlers might be surprised that these cost $50...)?

I'm trying to comprehend the motivation for post after post like this one, reveling in DK's every slipup or fault. Jealousy?

We've got 2 major metros, each failing in their own ways financially, morally and editorially. Somehow this guy hasn't had to pull the plug yet on his venture. The arbiter of that will be the day his business model collapses, if that day comes.

In the meantime, his paying subscribers don't care how many other paying subscribers there are; it's irrelevant. What they care about is whether they get their money's worth. When they don't, that'll be the end.

But it seems more likely someone on the North Shore will be sooner to give up the ship. Then a lot more people can spend their full day picking apart the DK operation.

I'm wondering why he is at the Olympics and not, say, at Steelers camp. I mean, I know why he's doing it, I'm just wondering how it's a good thing for the site or its subscribers.

Or for his employees who are already overworked. See Yohe is now at steelers camp after being with the Bucs in ATL. Supposed to be offseason for him isn't it?

What's the deal with his constant attacks of the Vancouver Olympics? It is one of the most odd battles I've seen on social media. Maybe a quarter of his subscribers could point to Vancouver on a map!

Canadian hockey media have called him out in the past on several occasions (like for his claiming an "exclusive" one time when his exclusive was video from a media filled press conference). And now he appears to be hostile to anything related to Canadian media, like stronghold cities Vancouver and Toronto.
