This sounds like some kind of Mark Madden meme.

What does popularity have to do with a columnist? As far as I can tell, Kevin Gorman writes a better column than Ralph Paulk, John Harris or any of the other full-time columnists at that paper of late.

As for Rutter as the beat guy, I mean, DiPaola, Bendel?

Nobody ever heard of Kaboly until he was put on the beat -- in that line of largely forgettable beat guys. It's the paper and the beat that gave Kaboly his name, certainly not his reporting.

Yeah, the PG has one of the best NFL writers in the country, but I wouldn't sleep on the Trib writers. Rutter was an incredible Pirates beat writer back in the day before he decided to take an editor job. There's no doubt he will get back to that point. He wasn't demoted either. Gorman is and always has been one of the best writers in town. Yeah, he's done a lot of high school stuff, but he was great at it. He's never been given the opportunities he deserves at the Trib because of mismanagement. Adamski is solid, as well. He a good reporter and works incredibly hard. Bouchette is king, and will be until he retires, but this Trib group will do a dynamite job.
