Subject: P-G Endorsements: Everybody But Prez

Well, the P-G endorsements look more like Trib endorsements encompassing some Democrats and a lot of Republicans (except DePasquale and 12th District congressional challenger Erin McClelland), among them Pat Toomey.

Rumors were flying earlier this year of an impending Trump endorsement by the Blade and PG. John Block and brother Allan make no secret they favor the Donald. The days when Hillary was personally welcomed by JRB and his bow tie at the old P-G are gone, yet there wasn't even a scornful "no endorsement" editorial.

The Trib so far endorsed no one for any office. That's also surprising.

So, the PG didn't have the guts to pick Trump or Clinton. But it laid out on the editorial page today 12 issues and put a check beside Clinton or Trump as better on the issue. See, they're schooling us unwashed on what we ought to think about. They called it A guide to decide. And guess what?

Right, they tied. Six check marks for each and two X's for each. The X's, for character and Supreme Court, indicate that neither is any good. The goofiest part is both got a checkmark as best on Obamacare. Whatever that means.

I suspect this goofy approach means the Blocks had a knock em down drag em out, with an inability to endorse either. Smart money is probably on Allan Block for Trump and twin John R. for Clinton. But who knows? And frankly, who cares?

They should have just been honest and said we can't decide, so you're on your own. In effect, they did.

A conglomeration of nothing.

So far as who backs Trump, Johnny Bow-tie Block got his photo taken with Trump and posted it on his Facebook page. If there was a knock and drag at the P-G and Blade it was with other Editorial Board members.

There is no coherency to the P-G anymore, with its flaky publisher, wimpy, self-absorbed Executive Editor and inability to create anything remotely resembling "One of America's Great Newspapers." Their idea of dynamic digital journalism: "Beer Me," sure to attract lots of new customers and readers.

The biggest favor they could do Pittsburgh is to say 'Yay! We beat the Trib!" And then sell the P-G to a company run by responsible adults.

Repeal and replace with the same thing.

In the end, instead of a dictatorial decree of who you should vote for, it's probably more effective to lay out the facts and arguments, giving readers the information they need to make up their own minds.

BTW, has anyone heard of ANY newspapers endorsing Trump?

The facts? Like the one about how Hillary was likely going to be indicted (and failing to mention that Trump is due in court later this month to defend himself against fraud charges)? This was a Trump endorsement without calling it a Trump endorsement.

The Las Vegas Review Journal endorsed Trump. The paper is owned by Republican benefactor Sheldon Adelson, a man whose casinos have not declared bankruptcy.

The KKK newspaper also endorsed Trump.

I don't understand why the twins keep the PG either, except out of some sense of family honor. The Blocks have no use for Pittsburgh and no respect for what their uncle, the late Bill Block did as publisher. They hated Scaife. Scaife hated them but they have very similar politics.

You would think JR and Allan would want out from under all these disgusting Burgh Yinzers and Libs and Tailgaters and so on, not to mention the State Stores they are so obsesssed with. That way they could go back to Toledo a bit richer and forget the whole thing. No one here would mourn.
