Subject: OMG! Jerry Micco on "KD/PG Sunday Edition"

Usually on Sunday mornings, it's Beltway Dave sitting with Stacy Smith, or if not Dave, "Bikeway John" (Allison). Of course John at least looks as if he's comfortable there. The Shribber clearly would rather be somewhere else but in a TV studio talking to more of the locals he looks down on.

But today, it was Micco, the PG's "Senior Assistant Managing Editor/Sunday," whatever that means. He sat there disinterested in the topic of domestic violence in the wake of the Canonsburg murders, talking to women who work to prevent such tragedies. Jerry came off more like the former AME/Sports he used to be. This was beyond square peg-round hole. It was like Dan Simpson interviewing microbrewery owners or Bauknnecht chatting with Janet Yellin. Of course, Micco, a Beltway fave from way back, didn't exactly command a lot of respect when he ran sports. He doesn't deserve any respect now, either.

It's reasonable to wonder why this program exists at all. It's not good public affairs programming and certainly doesn't put the remnants of the PG in a particularly flattering light, not with Shrib and not with Micco. I've heard it said it ought to be retitled "Sunday Funnies" instead of"Sunday Edition." But it's not funny at all. It's one more sad showcase of the PG's continuing deterioration under Block ownership, as the Trib fades from relevancy.

Why waste the airtime? Couldn't Channel 2 add a few bucks to the bottom line by running another infomercial?
