Kind of an unexpected and abrupt change, is it not?

Don't know what happened here but don't expect any transparency from Team Jenny.

I don't think this is much of a surprise, especially considering, and I don't know if anyone told you, there isn't a Pittsburgh edition any longer.
I imagine Luis will lead the team in Pittsburgh.

I thought the same thing, but if this were the case then why would this not have been announced at the same time as the other editorial moves previously revealed? The impression is, this was some kind of last-minute maneuver.

I thought the timing to be weird, too. But, as someone who once worked there, not much they do on a management level makes sense.

The first of the comments registered about this article also questioned what led up to it. Something happened. Jenny wants everyone to know all the "brilliant" things she's doing but not about the backstage goings-on.

Fabregas is the digital editor, he reports to McFarland, just like Borden and Fraser. It's not a scandal.

An allegedly "reinvented" media company should have announced this all at one time, not announce one round of promotions, then waited a beat or two, then announce these moves. It would have made more sense to do it as one big announcement. Thank Jenny the Inept for that move, like so many others. McFarland never makes waves. That's why she's lasted so long. It would be nice to see Borden make the Greensburg Trib into the kind of hard-hitting newsroom that shined light in dark corners, like it was 25 years ago.

Does anyone have an update about Jenaggedon 16? Now that the Trib got rid of all of its good reporters and editors, what role does Luis have? Has there been any news about the company's financial state?

Well the VND is boring and Westmoreland looks like a Chamber of Commerce publication. Pittsburgh online isn't worth the bandwidth that carries it. Jen will no doubt come up with some more stupid ideas to try and make herself look like the visionary she'll never be. Seriously, they should build a reality show around this and call it "Trib Kiddies: The Next Generation."

You read the VND, Trib and PGHlive? I find that hard to believe. But kudos if you aren't lying. The lack of detail in your post gives me pause.

I've looked at all three regular enough to see local coverage is peculiar to each, albeit shallow. Most features, sports, etc. are common to all three. I'm surprised, Jiminy, you aren't aware of such basic "detail."

PghLIVE is more PghLITE. Hopefully Borden can turn around Greensburg, long ridiculed as the "Sue [McFarland] Review" and Fraser can do likewise at the VND. The idea this can bring them back to financial stability is an altogether different matter. All three are diminished but still as inferior and mediocrity-driven as when Scaife ran the shop, only they now have a downsized staff and less money behind them.

It remains to be seen if Valley and Greensburg customers will gladly shell out for subscriptions and retail copies that Monday-Saturday consist of than two tiny sections. Like I said, I don't read all three every day. Too much junk journalism can be hazardous to one's health.

I root for the Trib because I don't want to see any publication go under, but it's become a festering mediocrity.

For all the gnashing of teeth and beating of breasts over the "Trib Kiddies" of nearly 20 years ago, some of those tykes ended up being pretty good reporters and editors.

Many of the "Kiddies" now at the Greensburg and Valley efforts aren't young and they're never going to improve.

It's a private company so they don't have to reveal their financials, but I'm also not sure that it matters.

It's no longer relevant. It's just a journalistic carcass and the vultures don't even want to eat it.

If it breaks even, then Jennifer can tell her board that everything is OK.

The readers in Greensburg don't get a say in the matter and no one is reading Pittsburgh's online debacle.

I don't read the VND and never did. It's just a dump for blotter news and the dull machinations of local government.

If you want uninspiring and boring content, then they found the perfect ex-Trib business editor to oversee it. At least with the previous editor you had a great deal of institutional knowledge and editorial competence, even if there was never much to report that was intriguing.

Greensburg has Erdley and she's good, but a lot of the copy there is a slightly higher grade of VNDish who-gives-a-damn, topped off with chamber of commerce fluffering you find in the worst small town presses.

It's never wanted to be more than it is, which is fine, but no one should think that the influx of Pittsburghers will make it better.

It's just more of the same with different bylines.

If you want to tell me that it was a lot better a quarter-century ago, I'd agree, but none of those staffers are left. Partly you can blame that on the resources flowing to the Pittsburgh Trib, but you also have to concede that it was an aging group of talent and they weren't going to work forever.

The Pittsburgh Trib 2.0 is a disaster. If the sports team left, there would be no reason to keep it open. Bertetto likely will can it sooner rather than later and move the leftovers to Greensburg and the Valley.

It's unreadable, even if there are some solid reporters remaining.

If the point of Jennifer's jihad was to make the enterprise solvent, then she might've succeeded. But if she also wanted to retain a relevant, readable product, she failed completely.

There was no strategic vision beyond cutting costs. It's still bloated with editors and management (seriously, just look at the ratio of reporters to editors, not even counting copy editors) but what they're editing is crap.

There's a lot of crime reporting that the PG already got, plus news based on press releases. The easy stuff that you grab when you've got small staffs of reporters and too many editors, I suspect.

The good news is that there's no competition for most of the Trib's remaining reporters, editors and photographers, so you don't have to pay them more to keep them from being hired away.

Stability isn't a bad thing, but it's also probably not sustainable. Eventually, consumers want quality, even if you're giving the product away for free online.
