You might be right but in 2017, that's an archaic line of thinking. "You see the name Post-Gazette and are more likely to buy it." When it actually had some heft to it, maybe so. When it didn't cost $ 2 a pop Monday-Saturday and $ 2.50 Sundays, and it took some time to read through, that could well have been true. Not now. Does anyone really think Shribman, who almost never comments on local events in his dull Sunday column, actually cares about the TV topics? He's there because JR tells him to be. The PG used to trumpet things like this and play the role of the "big deal newspaper organization" when they felt Scaife breathing down their necks with the Pittsburgh Trib but the events of the past year make that view outdated as well.

Your last take about KD seeing the show as "public benefit telecasting" comes closest to the truth. They try to give it meaning by running it against the Sunday morning news talk shows. But it doesn't help, and it's safe to say it doesn't bring one new reader to the PG. It may actually chase away a few.
