Unhinged Trump factotum Steve Bannon declares the media (of which he was a member until recently) is "the opposition party" and should "keep its mouth shut and just listen." Trump doubles down on pursuing ties with the sociopaths of Russia. His new UN Ambassador issues tough talk instead of conciliatory statements. At the end of that week, Beltway Dave, who has a Pulitzer, a fixation on his native New England and a revulsion for Pittsburgh (and the term "jagoff"), "analyzes" Trump by stating the obvious, showing zero guts and his skills for toadying to his Trump-friendly bosses, JR and Allan.

Oh, it's possible to excuse this exercise in wimpiness claiming he's trying to be objective, and he did mention Trump "creates chasms." That doesn't mask his utter cowardice in trying to intelligently analyze a President whose Twitter-obsession and sociopathic instincts are plunging the nation into greater chaos day by day. Does that bother the Shribster? No sir. He rambles through his usual unreadable analysis, dropping enough names to remind readers he knows history while never coherently explaining how Trump fits into it except to declare him our "first independent president." What insight!

.

Years ago, many on this forum justifiably slammed certain Trib higher-ups as tools of Scaife when he was in charge. This sad column reminds everyone that the PG "Vice President and Executive Editor," is the Block equivalent.

He should be royally embarrassed to see that sad excuse for a column in print, as headlines like this roll out.

If Trump-philes JR and Allan are down with this kind of thinking, David should be ashamed of his neutral shilling for the guy. Of course it was his vision that gave Pittsburgh the short-lived "insights" of Jenn Graham. Don't expect any shame from Block nation. They're Ivy League and they're right. Everybody else is wrong.

Maybe when David retires and the twins need a successor, Bannon or Kellyanne can suggest what Breitbart editor would be a good fit to run the PG.

Not much difference between Trump, Scaife and the Block Twins. All were born with silver spoons, thought they knew more than anyone else and in their own way, each managed to make asses of themselves. It's very hard to envision David didn't know better when he wrote this, and nearly impossible to ever again respect anything he writes, given the horrors unfolding in front of the world.

What makes you think that David is all that liberal? To the extent that he ever shows much of his own ideology, I've always assumed he's a bit on the conservative side.

He already described his politics in a column last year, doing so in the usual condescending, snotty way that makes him one of the worst newspaper editors in the history of Pittsburgh journalism.

I certainly agree with the term "hopeless," though it applies to him in a different way since he's become a highbrow Trump apologist

Cheerio to you, Beltway Dave. The sooner YOU retire, pack up your tired Ivy League elitism and ship it back to New England, the better for Pittsburgh.

He's going to toe the Block party line no matter what. Who else but JR would have hired someone so ill-suited as Executive Editor at a larger daily? Pulitzer or not, running the DC Bureau of the Globe didn't quality him. So he's going to find a way to justify any idiotic viewpoints coming from the twins.

David's column, as usual, is a fart in the wind. The Blocks' de facto Trump support despite his bigotry and sociopathy combined with their pre-election "non endorsing endorsement" only eroded ther credibility faster. JR and Allan no doubt have fantasies of being like Donald. All the while they slashed the PG to a point few want to read it and want to cut even more. Then with all the condescension they can muster, they'll tell Pittsburgh how lucky they are to have what's left of One of America's Formerly Great Newspapers.

What David does for the rest of his career there doesn't matter. His clueless bosses are driving what's left of the P-G over a cliff.
