Logic never really applies to management. It's not worth speculating.

You could be a team player if you take the furlough. You could be pointed at as expendable if you take the furlough. You're damned either way. They won't be saving much money through the furloughs. They could save more money by being a little less "Total Media".

They spend a lot of money on sponsorships around the city. When I see the Trib rotunda at PNC Park, I think of how many salaries were spent on the sponsorship. Sad.

I truly hope layoffs are not imminent at the Trib or the P-G. Any writing job lost in this city is a job that won't be coming back elsewhere, at least in any form that comes with a steady paycheck.

Thank you for pointing out that there aren't any jobs to go around right now. There aren't. The grass isn't much greener outside of the Trib. For all the folks here that cry, "Leave the Trib!", do you have a job ready and waiting for an unemployed journalist?

The Trib can be a demoralizing place to work. Does the 'perfect' job really exist anymore, though? The pay isn't fantastic. It is a paycheck, though. Benefits still exist, too. You get through as best you can. I can think of plenty of non-writing jobs that are worse than working at the Trib.
