Update of Firedrill's instructions for Ircle and Colloquy:

Here is a brief tutorial on how to connect to #comicality using Ircle:

(I apologize in advance if this walk-through seems condescending. That is not my intent. Mac users have widely varying levels of technical ability...so I’ll just type this out as clearly and simply as I can).

Download Ircle from www.ircle.com

1) Once you’ve opened up Ircle you will see three main windows: Inputline, Userlist and Connections...start with Connections.

2) The connections window lists 10 servers for possible activation. Select a server that you do not currently use for IRC chat, then click the EDIT button.

3) When the Connection Preferences window opens up the top three tabs read: Identity, Autoexec, and Misc./CTCP. For the moment we are only concerned with the contents of the Identity tab which should be selected by default.

4) Click the “Select...” button located next to the text reading Server.

5) Now you see a list of cool and popular IRC servers...which does not include ChatUniverse. Click the “Add” button.

6) In the server field, type: irc.chatuniverse.net

7) The port should be designated 6667 by default, so leave it alone.

8) For network click on the menu and scroll all the way to the bottom until you see the option: Standalone servers. Select it.

9) Click OK and you’re back in the “Add Server” menu with your newly created settings highlighted. Click the SELECT button.

10) Now you’re back in the Connections Preferences window. The text next to “Server” should now read: irc.chatuniverse.net

11) Fill in your Nickname, Username (these can usually be the same) and Real Name (if you want to include it). Once you’re done with that, click OK.

12) One of the 10 servers that you’ve chosen to edit in the Connections window should now display your newly chosen username, followed by irc.chatuniverse.net. Select this server and click on the CONNECT button.

13) Ircle logs in to ChatUniverse.

14) Type in the Inputline (without quotes): “/join #comicality”

15) That’s it! Now you can rub elbows over the internet!

And, to go over the top....here’s how to do it in Colloquy:

Download Colloquy from http://colloquy.info

1) The very first item that pops up is the “New Connection” window. Type in your nickname, leave the server protocol on IRC, and for chat server type (you guessed it): irc.chatuniverse.net

2) Click the “Remember this connection” radio button so you won’t have to do this every time you open up the program.

3) Click connect.

4) Type in the Inputline (without quotes): “/join #comicality”

6-Optional) You can edit your personal info (Colloquy has the annoying habit of naming you after your computer’s username) by clicking on the blue info button on top of the connections window.

That’s it! I hope it helps!
