Been there done that. Growing up in the "Bible Belt" (Kansas) I've been through this one before (on both sides). It ends badly 90% of the time. I will not go there again! First, If those conflicts of faith have not been resolved he is no where near ready for a relationship. I've taken on many "projects" before (just call me Henry Higgins). I've come to realize that in cases like this its like riding a pogo stick through an emotional mine field, and thats if he's decided he wants to actually work on accepting and resolving his issues. Most of the time you end up being more of a therapist than a BF. It can take years for someone to resolve those kind of conflicts even with professional help. I know it took me years to resolve mine.

The other thing is I am out and proud. It took me years of therapy, pain, struggle and general hell to come out and I will NEVER go back in the closet for anyone no matter how much I love them. Don't get me wrong I don't flaunt it in peoples faces but I don't lie about it nor do I hide it. As a result I make it a general policy not to date guys who are still in the closet. Once agin I've tried it doesn't work out well 90% of the time. Too many unresolved issues, lies, pretending to be "just a friend" and we cant forget the ever present fear of being "outed". Toss that together with being in two completely different mental, emotional and developmental places and it makes a recipe for disaster.

  • Represent! Used to a Christian, but I still respect the relgion as a whole for that reason. It's not Bible that condemns; it's the idiots who pretend follow it :-) (NT) -- Ryuichi88, 17:46:32 03/14/08 Fri
