So, certainly our views are influenced by our surroundings. I live in Denver, which is a big city, and my views on sex are a lot more liberal than my friends in Longmont, a nearby farming town, and more conservative than the guys up in Boulder. On the other hand, though, exposure to differening ideologies does not imply a necessary causal relationship. I know people in town so prudish it's laughable (like my ex who refused to take off his clothes with the lights on, even for sex, which i didn't get until our 3 year anniversary) and also some serious whores in the BFE. So I suppose it's like any other belief or creed - greater exposure to different schools of thought facilitates change and assimilation, but does not necessarily override human choice.
