Canada is a good country per se as is everyone in the basic and yes even the U.S :) now as I can speak for my own country Canada...

here are things that you should know

If you go in the province of Quebec, I mean the cities of Montreal or Quebec city, learning french will mean a lot to the peop[e there (even more so in Quebec city) we don't ask that you get it right after 2 weeks but be able to say bonjour and merci beaucoup (hello and thank you very much) every now and then

now in terms of big cities the 3 main one are Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver. Toronto is really more business oriented, as montreal and vancouver are a good mixture of both if you are in the asian culture (I mean if you really like that ) Vancouver is the place for you, if you want festival all summer long then montreal is the place

now in terms of laws age of consent is still at 14 they want ot move it to 16 yrs old, you can't donate blood or organs of you're gay... whatever... smoking in bars and restaurants are prohibited (which as a smoker, I still agree with that) and right off the bat there's nothing else that comes to mind in terms of ''bad'' laws.

So that's my take but in the end every country will have strange or bad laws... you have to decide which one is more suited for you!!
