I've a few times to the Netherlands (on Texel and in Amsterdam) and I loved it. And yes, smoking was also a reasson for me, to visit the Netherlands :P... And i definetly noticed the more open-minded way of life there.
The political stuff will never the less come to the Netherlands as well. European Union is kinda alighty already. And they are not slowing down. They do quite a few good things, I won't ignore that, but the general direction, of taking Freedom of choice or even freedom of failure away from me, is not making me happy...

The debate about islamic immigrants is another tendency that worries me HUGELY!! In germany and europe we have a bit of a shift to the right, if you know what i mean. Generally the more "extreme" parties are becoming more and more popular. Right and Left. (Are these terms used or understood in other countries?? right = nationalism and left socialism/communism)
There was a big debate about criminal youths with immigration background (thats the political correct term :D)... should they be punished harder or send back to there home country... oh well, I could go on forever, about all the stuff that pisses me of lately.
In the end I will just come visit you in Ireland. The whiskey is definitely a great reason to go there :) Or maybe I'll move into the wood in norther Canada or something :)
