When it's frozen and on your screen, try pressing Ctrl-Alt-Del

Sometimes updates are stuck at a certain part, which is what I think is happening to you, if it keeps stopping at 85% then there's clearly something up there at that point. So try clicking Ctrl-Alt-Del and you could be presented with your Windows login screen.

If so, log on as you normally would and let the updates continue to install successfully.

You could also try System Restore from Advanced Startup Options if you're not able to access Safe Mode or if the restore failed from Safe Mode. Since these menus of tools are available from "outside" of Windows, you can try this even if Windows is completely unavailable.

1. Hold down either SHIFT key while tapping or clicking on Restart, available from any Power icon.‚Äč Power icons are available throughout Windows 10, including the sign-in/lock screen.
Although this method does not seem to work with the on-screen keyboard. You'll need to have a physical keyboard connected to your computer or device to open the Advanced Startup Options menu this way.

Wait while the Advanced Startup Options menu opens.

The Advanced Startup Options menu, available in Windows 10 is the central fix-it location for the entire operating system.

From here you can access Windows diagnostic and repair tools like Reset This PC, System Restore, Command Prompt, Startup Repair, and much more.

Advanced Startup Options is also where you access Startup Settings, the menu that includes Safe Mode, among other startup methods that could help you access Windows 10 if it is having problems starting.

Hope this helps, Com.
