This week’s 3M selection takes a bit of a dark approach to a teen dealing with street life, but it’s an honest take for a lot of boys out there...unfortunately.
”Pig Pen"
While the content of this movie is a bit on the gritty side, I think it was really engaging just the same. It sucks that there are actually high school aged kids who have to live like this...but it happens a lot more often than any of us would ever want to admit. Built around teen, Zack, who’s mother has allowed her newest ‘boyfriend’ to live in their house due to her drug addiction and his constant access to the goods she needs to maintain a daily fix...he finds himself being forced out onto the streets to escape his verbal and physical abuse. Unfortunately, there’s nothing out there on the streets for him except for more trouble, and a strong desire to go back and save his mom from either dying from the narcotics, or being killed by her violent partner.
This one can be a bit hard to watch in some parts, but if you can stand the drama and the inner rage of it all, it’s a decent flick to check out when you get a chance. My one complaint is that the movie does kind of jump back and forth in time without warning at times...and it can be disorienting. So you lose track of whether certain events happened before or after what’s going on in the present...but outside of that, a dangerous rush of emotions come packaged with this one. So be ready! :P
