Simple answer is yes I do think its harder for guys than girls.
Suppose with girls they are already seen to be the weaker fairer sex, all lovey dovey so its sort of accepted that to girls/women together still seem normal or fitting into the perseved gender role in life.
Guys are meant to be the alphas, providers, butch, protectors. So when 2 guys are seen together even if they don't "act" or appear gay, it goes against the preset sterio types.
I've also noticed especailly in London that homophobia to wards men has started to increase again. Then again it also depends on which area your in.
