This week's 3M goes to some pretty dark places...and it takes the time to explain why.
"And Then I Go"
This was a surprising independent film, released (I think) digitally not very long ago. Something about this movie really stuck with me, and that's mostly due to the incredible performance of the film's main young actor, Arman Darbo! Parts of this movie are downright heartbreaking. Geez! Reminds me of a young DiCaprio, honestly!
"And Then I Go" tells the story of two boys in high school who are looked upon as being somewhat 'strange'. And strange means unpopular. Unpopular leads to demeaning comments, rumors, and routine bullying, both at school and away from school. However, this story begins to darken...little by little...and just as you're getting to understand what's going on and who the main characters are, you begin to think..."Oh gosh! This won't end well!"
I spend the movie routing for the main characters to catch a break but...dammit! The thumbscrews get turned, the situations get a bit more severe, and this movie soon becomes a portrait of teenage isolation, bullying, peer pressure, and violence. So...if you're in the mood for that sort of thing, check it out when you get the chance!
it's not a depressing movie, nor is it an action movie. It's just life...played out in ways that makes you wonder, "Could that have been me at that age?"
