Subject: I think it's the infection / death rate that has people worried...
In reply to: Comicality 's message, "It's so weird. I have never seen anything like this before..." on 23:43:29 03/15/20 Sun

In Italy, it's above 5% of those who caught it, are dead. And another 20% were in intensive care before recovering.
Now, I don't know if those figures are exact, nobody does because the symptoms in about half are so mild they barely know they've had it, so they're less likely to be tested, and if they did those numbers of deaths and severe cases would be lower. But they're still saying the figures are significantly higher than flu. Between 10 and 50 times as deadly, when everything is taken into account.

I too think people are overreacting. But at the same time I think when all's said and done, a lot of people are going to die from this, sadly. And what makes that more likely is all the people getting it at once, and having the hospitals out of control and staff overworked. And this of course effects other patients like, say, a kid who needs an emergency appendix removal. Or a crash victim, but there's no beds, equipment or staff available because they're all either ill or overworked.
What a shit show, huh? Glad you're OK, bud :)
