It usually helps if you know like a general date and location, and full name of your grandparents.

The site I'm on is actually very intuitive. I couldn't find anything on my dad's side the first day I started using it.

When I had a look the following morning, it had my dad, my uncle. Then the next day it had both his parents. And I've had an easier time finding his great-grandparents than I had with my dad at first.

And this is only knowing my dad and grandparents full names. I don't speak to my dad or his family.

The only downside really is that it's not cheap to use. I got three months for free, but it's generally about $50 for 3 months. It depends on how much you want to use it I guess.

I didn't really care for it at all, to start with. I was and still am (until I get them back), more interested in my broader DNA results. Like when and where my family line came from throughout the ages.

And if my family came from the proto celts that lived in Britain before the romans invaded. Or if they came over with the Saxons in the 5th century.
