Do you remember at the beginning of the pandemic, before mask wearing in the US became a political issue, and when some people opposed closing down for economic reasons?

And while I disagreed with that view, I saw the sense in their argument.

Well now many of the same people, are against mask wearing as nations/states etc, begin to ease lockdown restrictions. Encouraging/mandating masks would benefit the economy in more than one way. It will help reduce the spread of the virus, first of all, and it will boost people's confidence to go out and spend money, right?

But the same people now say that vaccines and mask wearing are part of some major conspiracy. So the economic argument was always bullshit for them. Not for everyone, but that specific group, which isn't exactly small.

It's just political sports. If Trump was saying the virus was bad and he was selling MAGA masks, they'd be saying the opposite thing to what they're saying now, while wearing bright red MAGA face masks. And all these Republican politicians like Ron DeSantis would be warning about the virus.
It's sad when political discourse has become so divisive that even major things like a deadly pandemic becomes political and the politicians who are supposed to be protecting us, are making decisions that put us at risk, and do nothing to stop the spread of a virus that is making millions seriously ill, and hundreds of thousands dead.
