I don't really remember many family gatherings with the extended lot, for occasions. I mean, it happened on informal occasions, but it tended to be we'd go somewhere out, rather than at someone's home. Homes in the UK tend to be smaller than homes elsewhere. It's a small island, and we have to cramp a lot into a smaller space.

Nevertheless, there were times, that maybe another family (my aunt's family or an uncle with his family) came around. Though it tended to be during spring or summer, and us kids would be out in our garden/yard, where my dad had put up a swing set and a slide, etc. Plus, I had a treehouse for us to play in. Or we'd possibly be in my bedroom, which was in our attic, if it was cold and raining. My dad would put on a barbecue, weather permitting.

This didn't happen that often though. We weren't that close to our relatives, either in distance or emotionally. Except for one of my cousins, but I only got closer to him in my mid teens, when his mum needed surgery and he came to stay with us for a few weeks.

We had so much fun, those were some of the best days of my life. Though, sadly, we fell out about 20 years ago and haven't spoken since.
