I just checked out the new Goosebumps movie, though unlike the previous movies, it's really just a feature length episode, like from the old school series.

I grew up reading the books, and watching the series from the 1990s. In fact, I think it was this series that got me into reading books.

I can still remember the papery smell of the pages, as I'd sit on my bed, at all hours of the night, reading through one of the books.

And I can also remember the first book that got me hooked on it, The Haunted School.

Anyway, I like how this film doesn't patronize it's audience. Like, so many movies and shows aimed at families and younger audiences, these days, they treat them like they're five years old.

They never did that when we were kids, like, do you remember the movie, Goonies? There are a few swear words, and even a guy pretending to hang himself, at the beginning, to escape jail.

I've watched a few reactions to that film, on YouTube, and there's always someone saying "wow, are you sure this is a kid's movie?"

I think since the 00s, movies have been overly strict about what can be shown in a production when it's aimed at younger audiences.

This film itself feels very 90s, early 2000s. The plot itself is simple enough, but intriguing. And even the main character himself in what he's wearing, just baggy jeans and a hoodie, and a baseball cap. And a 90s hairstyle too.

I wonder if this movie was actually made for today's teens, or those who grew up enjoying the show in the 90s?

Either way, if you're looking for something a little fun and spooky, but nothing too serious, you might enjoy this.
