One of the few things I can credit our typically useless government for is they were quick on the game when it came to vaccines.

They dropped the ball so badly early on, regarding covid-19.
At first they were going to allow it to spread through the population without resistance, under the guise of "herd immunity". Then there was obviously quite a backlash. So they did lockdowns. But they flipped on every issue, over and over. Like, schools to stay open. Schools to close. "Eat out to help out." "work at home and stay at home if you can."

You can't go to the gym. The pubs have to close. Unless they sell you a baked pie, then you can have a beer and a pie, but not just a beer. That makes total sense...

Then his closest advisor clearly broke the law, by breaking the lockdown rules we were all under. The PM and the rest government blatantly lied about it. At the same time they were handing out heavy fines to other people for doing the same thing he did.

The PM attacked the Leader Of the Opposition for suggesting things that the PM ended up actually doing anyway, a week or two later.

They failed on PPE and track and trace too. They spent billions of tax payers money on an app that didn't work.

We have the highest death rate of any major nation in the world. Even worse than the US.

But they did gamble on a couple of vaccines succeeding in trials and ordered tens of millions of doses. Two of them were successful.

40% of the adult population has had the first dose of the vaccine. But to get the full vaccination you need 2 shots.
2.4% of the adult population has had both doses.
The first dose provides something like 65% protection.
Ordinarily, a person should get the second dose after 3 weeks. But it can be left until 12 weeks and still work as a full inoculation, as long as you have the second dose by then.

To get more people partially covered, the government has taken the approach that we'll get the second dose 12 weeks after the first one.
