I only had two minor complaints about the story. And they're not really typical to that story, just things I've noticed time to time in stories, and it sticks out.

1) There was a young child, maybe 7? I can't remember his age, but he sounded too articulate. I find it a little annoying sometimes when a child sounds beyond his or her years. Even if they're intelligent, they're still children. But it was only like half a page in the story so it wasn't really an issue.

And 2. Two of the minor characters sounded alike. Using the same mannerisms and such, and they didn't even know each other, so it's not like they could pick it up off the other one.
But this was also another minor part in the story. I just think in real life, people rarely sound alike. They have their own personalities, reactions sayings, and whatnot.

But the same author is supplying the voice to all these characters, so if they're not mindful of that, sometimes two characters sound alike, and speak like the author, and it stands out. I've noticed it in almost every piece of fiction I read, so it's not unique to this author. But it's something that niggles at me.

But over all, I really enjoyed the story, and would highly recommend it. I don't remember the main protagonist being manipulative. But it's been a few years, maybe I've forgotten :)
