I figured in the world that the author created there wouldn't be a happy ending where they beat death. I had hoped for one when they made it back to Mateo's apartment briefly. I think the biggest thing that made me sad was that Mateo never got to come out to his Dad even though he really wanted to there at the end.

What struck me is just how it happened. A gas explosion is such a bad way to go and for poor Rufus to have to pull him out and beg the paramedics to save him...yikes.

Thanks for the recommendation for The Lightning-Struck Heart. I looked at it on that Goodreads link you posted and it sounds much more light hearted than a lot of the stuff I've been reading. I might give it a go for something more light and fun.

Though I'm not sure if I'm into light and fun YA fiction.
