Subject: Cannot hotsync Palm m515

I cannot get my Palm 515m to hotsync. I press the button and it goes through the process but does not transfer to my computer. I have tried everythink on the Palm One website. I purchased a new USB chord to see if it was the cradle. It still did not work. I even deleted the software and reloaded it. It said I would not lose my files, but I cannot find them on the computer. Is there anyway to backup my files on the Palm? I read a procedure that requires that you let the battery run completely down. Will this work? I really would like to backup my data. I thought about sending it to another friend's Palm but some files have a lock beside them. I need help please! Thanks!

I had this problem with my M506 two years ago. You need to let it run dead or open it up and disconnect then reconnect the battery.

I purchased a Torx wrench from my local Sears and opened mine. After I unplugged and replugged the battery it worked fine. Yes you do need to backup your data. It is like doing a hard reset.

Good luck.

How can I backup my data if I cannot perform a Hotsync with my Palm 515m? Can I send files to another Palm? Can I send my address book to another Palm before I let the battery go completely down. I performed reloading the software and my data on the computer was erased I think. I cannot find it. Thanks for your reply.

Al,
Take a deep breath! Before you do anything else, download BackUp Man or BackUp Buddy. I think they both offer a free trial. If you don't have an expansion card, you will need one. Do a back up of your palm to the expansion card. Now let's check a couple of settings. Right click on your hot sync icon. Click on "Custom". What are your settings telling you? Since you are running the m515, and since you have already deleted you desk top, you will want them to say "Handheld Overwrites Desktop". You will need to change Date Book, Address Book, etc. Once you have modified the settings, try to hot sync again. If this is successful, you will have put your Palm files back where they belong. REMEMBER THIS: Once you have completed this initial hot sync and it has been successful, go back to the hot sync icon, and again click on Custom. You will want to revert back to "Synchronize Files" for your settings. I don't think you have SUDS or your device would not work, and the green charging light would stay on all of the time. IF you need any additional help, email me.
