Subject: Yeah. All computers have an internal hard drive. Without one, they wouldn't work! LOL! Inside
In reply to: ED 's message, "Sheezh - I may have answered my own question - in your first response you suggested an EXTERNAL hard drive or flash drive. I guess the one I have is internal. Hopefully, this is correct. I'm off to CompUSA and to talk to a techie. Thanks." on 11:42:38 07/22/07 Sun

For back up purposes, you want a physically separate place (as opposed to another partition on the same drive). This way, if your hard drive dies, you have a back up. An external hard drive is what most people use who need a lot of backup space. It is much easier to set up an external drive than another internal drive (If your computer has the space for it, you *can* install an additional internal drive, but that would involve opening up the computer box and knowing what you're doing! LOL That's what we used to do before external drives became more affordable).

Anyway, now I'm just rambling about computer nerd stuff! LOL Make sure that you tell the salesperson that you want something that is simple to set up. You want something that you can just plug in and use. Some drives are more user friendly than others, so you want to get the easiest one possible.

[> [> [> That makes sense - something simple, what was your first clue? LOL! The sales person suggested a WD Passport ($89.98) with 120 GB. He said it was just plug in and... we'll see. I haven't had a chance to try it yet, but I'll let you know how it goes or ask another 101 questions. Thanks -- ED, 06:21:30 07/23/07 Mon [1]

[> [> [> [> I'm a cheapskate - I have an inexpensive two gig flashdrive that I keep on my keychain and save the stuff that's really important to me- most of the crud on my computer is just software anyhow- the actual material that means something to me doesn't take up much space. -- chris k, 05:19:18 07/25/07 Wed [1]
