Subject: Smalls Lighthouse.

I am writing a novel based around the Smalls Lighthouse, off of South Wales. The trouble is I have found conflicting information about the time that Thomas Griffiths died and the consequent change in policy of having 3 keepers instead of two. Although writing fiction, I have to be careful not to change history. I have already looked at Trinity House, Wikipedia, and Lighthouse keepers Association.
Can anyone enlighten me on these facts, please?
