[> Do you remember what several of us said here about two years ago? We said that the US should attack France. Now it is more true than ever before. They are hypocrites. They destroyed a ship which went to protest the French testing nuclear devices in Tahiti. They used military force in the Ivory Coast without UN approval, did the same to Vietnam, Africa, Algeria, and elsewhere. They are hypocrites, anti-Semites, socialists, communists, and racists. The belief that Europe, and France itself is somehow superior to the US, even in the area of racism, is a farce. -- William, 22:07:03 02/19/03 Wed (cache-rl02.proxy.aol.com/152.163.189.98)

[> [> Talking about hypocrisy and sinking ships, do you remember when USS Liberty was attacked in 1967 with the loss of 34 American lives, watched by one of our surveillance aircraft flying overhead? Do you want us to declare war on Israel? How about the country that illegally captured USS Pueblo? The same one that is now sticking a finger up at us, Japan, South Korea? Are we going to attack them? Not on your life, far too dangerous, let's indulge them like spoilt children, we only want to attack weak countries where we have a chance of winning. -- Chris Henry, 04:56:55 03/04/03 Tue (cache1-2.ruh.isu.net.sa/212.138.47.11)

[> [> [> Your account of the USS Liberty attack is bias and flawed at best. The USS Liberty attack was a mistake. The Israelis were being fired upon by a ship in the region and thought it was the Liberty. There was an Egyptian ship in the area and it was possible Israel thought this was that ship. The US Navy itself also investigated and determined that it was a mistake. Israel did compensate the US for this error and loss of life. During the Gulf War there were dozens of soldiers injured or killed by "friendly fire." -- William, 02:37:58 03/08/03 Sat (cache-mtc-ah04.proxy.aol.com/64.12.96.169)

[> [> [> In Iraq our own jets fired on and brought down two of our own helicopters. It happens during a war. USS Liberty was fired upon on day four of the six day war of 1967. I question your claim that there was US surveillance aircraft in the area watching the whole event. At that time the US did not with to provoke the Soviet Union and tried to stay out of the region.

Regarding North Korea: Have you noticed that China, Japan, and South Korea have been doing virtually nothing to control North Korea? Has the whole world gone to sleep? -- William, 02:49:14 03/08/03 Sat (cache-mtc-ah04.proxy.aol.com/64.12.96.169)

[> [> [> I have more about North Korea in this sub page. Just click on this text. Before I move there, however, regarding Israel again, think about it, Chris. The US is/was Israel's closest friend and supporter then in 1967. Do you really think that Israel would actually attack the US and make an enemy out of their own, lone ally when the Soviet Union, Europe, and Arabia were chomping at the bit to destroy Israel and Jews? I don't think so. -- William, 03:14:53 03/08/03 Sat (cache-mtc-ah04.proxy.aol.com/64.12.96.169)

Of course they do not with to have war in their neighborhood but if the do not do something, they are all going to have to deal with North Korea and it will not be easy. Nevertheless, Chris, I think you are starting to sound like you are caught up in anti-US rhetoric. We now have a president who, although he might not be perfect, he has already outperformed his predecessor and Jimmy Carter as well.

Carter and Clinton were/are responsible for North Korea having their nuclear systems and for enabling North Korea in this nuclear threat. Nevertheless, that is now water under the bridge. President George W. Bush is not the wimp that everyone had hoped he would be and I would not be so cocky as you seem to be regarding the US not doing anything about North Korea. At this time we are engaged in disarming a tyrant who engages terrorists, supplying money, training, guidance, and weapons to terrorists. After this person, Saddam Hussein, is dealt with, the US can cook other fish, such as Iran, Saudi Arabia, and, your favorite, North Korea.

Yes, I DO expect the US to take on North Korea if it is determined to be necessary. It is not time to do so now. North Korea's neighbors, China, Russia, South Korea, and Japan, must take a firmer stand and show some backbone. Once Saddam is dealt with then, if China, Russia, South Korea, and Japan wish to deal with North Korea, the US will be happy to oblige. If they do not wish to deal with North Korea, then I expect the US will do something about North Korea. Yes, Chris, if necessary the US WILL do something about North Korea and yes, if there is a war, North Korea will be defeated.

No, I am not hoping for war and I do not get a buzz from war. I do see the need to deal with these things before they get too far out of hand.

Kim Il Jung is a nut case. In North Korea you live better as a member of the military than if you are a civilian. Fuel oil and other supplies which have been sent to North Korea intended to help the people, especially in the cold of winter, have been channeled to the military. The North Korean military eats better, sleeps better, is better clothed and warmer than the general population.

If Kim Il Jung intends to attack the US or pose a threat the the US, then, as long as someone like George W. Bush is president, we might have a chance at using military force and stopping him. If we have more Clintons, Jimmy Carters, or similar characters as president we are likely to lose it all to these insane fools. They are likely to sell weapons to terrorists and terrorist supporting countries and also engage in attacking the US themselves.

Regarding your quote "Are we going to attack them? Not on your life, far too dangerous, let's indulge them like spoilt children, we only want to attack weak countries where we have a chance of winning.", as you can see above, yes, I do think the US will attack North Korea if necessary and yes. I do not think the US will only attack weak countries. The US stood up to the Soviet Empire, Hitler and the Nazis, Mussolini and his troops, the Emperor and Japan and others. Of course it is better to fight an opponent who you think you have a better chance of defeating but the US can and will defeat North Korea if necessary, provided we do not wait until another five or ten years pass by.

Does appeasement have its place? Yes it does. While we are fighing to eliminate regimes which support terrorism and change the face of the Middle East, one of the main breeding grounds of fanatical Islmofascist militant terrorism, we will have to use other means on North Korea until we are ready to deal with them militarily.

Notice, however, that the US is taking steps to deal with North Korea should North Korea make any stupid moves. The US has already stationed some bombers in the area of Guam and other areas within striking distance of North Korea.

I know that many people in the anti-US movement world wide are not really anti-violent but only anti-US and pro-megalomaniac dictators and pro-Islamofascist militant terrorsts. The "anti-war/anti-US" movement is rife with people who do engage in violent acts. They don't really wish for peace but they do enjoy attacking the US and giving North Korea, Iran, Iraq, and others a free pass.

These same people are cowards which is why they like to harp on the idea that the US will not fight anyone who can fight back or that the US will attack weak countries. It makes sense to stop a country from building a military which could be more difficult to handle in a war before they build that military up. The anti-US people just don't wish to see the US succeed.

If people are wise they will unite and stop North Korea from continuing to build up. At least the Soviet Union was more sane than North Korea is. They must be dealt with and if China, Japan, Russia, and South Korea are going to be weak and appeasers like the current UN Security Council is, especially France and Germany, then the US might have to go it alone in North Korea as well.

I have no doubt that once the US does defeat North Korea, if it ever comes to that, the people of North Korea are going to be very happy to finally have a warm home to live in, good food to eat and warm food in their belly, as well as a better quality of life once their dictator leadership squandering North Korea's wealth and resources is gone.
