Subject: This is espeically true of Europe whose very existence is possible only because the US actually protected them. Nevertheless the majority of the people are not always right or correct and this is what separates a leader from someone who is not a leader. Sometimes a leader must do what they know to be right and just no matter the numbers who oppose him. Regarding your idea about a five year old and their temper tantrum, this is the role of France, Iraq, and a few others.
