In reply to: MistReaver 's message, "Chasing Spirits" on 17:42:38 11/19/01 Mon

BLue eyes slowly walked back up the stairs and when he reached the second story walked into his bed glancing out the window for a moment, then turning his attention back to the bed. Suddenly his head jerked back to the window... A Rapter? in the snow? now i've seen everything.....unless "nurse go check on that rapter, i don't think it should be submerged like that"
then he slowly curled up in the bed relaxing.

Heavy footsteps thumping on the stairs leading to Az's and Mist's shared room barely made their way into Azonthus' consciousness as she slept. Suddenly, the door to the room was flung open and someone started getting the banked fire going strongly again.

Az moaned and pushed her head out of the mound of blankets to look around. What she saw through blurry eyes quickly woke her up.

Three strong humans were laying MistReaver down next to the fire in some blankets while some women were dragging a tub into the room. They filled it with warm water and gently layed Mist in it in a desperate attempt to get the raptors body temperature up.

"Mist!" Az bolted from her nest bed and ran to her friends side. The Utahraptors skin held a sad bluish tint to it and Mists mouth was bleeding slightly. The dark raptors skin had turned from near black to a sickly cold gray, tinges of an icy blue showing near her gums. She goaned, her lids fluttering, barely coherant noises coming from her mouth.

The warmth washed over Mist and her lids opened, closed, and immediately her pupils dilated. Mumbling in a tongue incoherant to everyone around her, she began tos creabble agains the sides of the tub, her eyes searching the room.

"Mist! Please... calm down. You're safe..." Az soothed. "What happened?"

Blue eyes follows the Group limping and hurries to help, he sat down next to Mist and tried to help, still a bit oblivious to Az's presence. "how may i help? Please tell me" he was worried deeply for the rapters saftly

Gasping the raptor felt hands, talons and leathery hands on her. She calmed down, realizing she wasn't speaking in any Dinotopian language and switched to broken dromeosaur tongue, obviously shaken, a small bead of blood trickling out of her mouth.

"F..fffound...in ththethe snow. Sssssooo cold. Vents beneatthhhhhh ssssnows. Lava," Her eyes flushes a deep green and were wide. "I found the Gaia..."

"Gaia? An earth spirit? Can she help us?" Az was worried for her friend, but there was also the danger of the entire mountain vanishing beneath a river of lava.

Mistreaver leaned back in the warm water. "Rest... cold.." she murmured.

Az nodded. "Just try to warm up. I'll stay here with you."

"Rest...yes," calmed, Mist nodded. "Gaia earth spirit...within, outside..." She looked around, her eyes glazing, "told me...of where. And when and why. Can't stop it, but maybe...divert, evacuate. The spirits...know more. Yes..please stay. And you, Troodon," She looked at Blue Eyes. "Stay too. later...I'll speak...with the Gaia..." She drifted into a fitful sleep.

Blue eyes nodded and poured some water into the tub and offered Mist some fish. "ok when you are ready we shall listen." he smiled and rested, tired from the energy he had already excerted

((OOC....As so many replies have been posted since I've last visited here, I'm inserting this reply here in order to provide the blankets which helped to warm Mist. I hope that it fits!))

Having seen the condition of the raptor who had been carried up the stairs of the Inn after having been exposed to the freezing conditions which swirled continuously about Thermala, Ajzik knew from previous contact with those not of this region that the icy temperatures could have a devastating if not fatal effect on those not acclimated to the terrain.

"Come on, Mathaira, it looks like we're going to need more of those blankets from the Trading Post," she urged her human companion.

"You're right, Ajzik," Mathaira agreed. She offered several of the blankets from their packs to Saazuka, a human woman who had been upstairs with the chilled raptor as the woman returned to carry more hot water to fill the tub in the room above, "These will help to keep her warm," Mathaira indicated the room upstairs which housed the raptor. "We're going to get more blankets. I think that we're going to need them for this mission."

The woman thanked the pair before heading to refill the bucket and returned to the room with more hot water and the blankets for the raptor.

Mathaira retrieved her parka and other outer garments which had been drying by the fire, bundling up as necessary to endure the frigid cold, Ajzik's thick fur being the only insulation needed by her.

Az stayed with her friend through the night, constantly adding warm water to the tub and trying to bring up the utahraptors body temperature. The extreme cold of the Forbidden Mountains had taken it's toll on the therapod, but Az refused to let her friend die.

Blue Eyes, despite his best attempts, could not manage to stay awake. He had exerted himself too much through the day and needed to rest. He had climbed into Mist's unused nest bed around one in the morning.

Sunlight began peeking through the window and adding it's warmth to the room.

Az checked on MistReaver one more time and added some morew arm water. Mist's skin was a better color, and felt a little warmer to the touch.
