Date Posted: 06:33:32 05/23/05 Mon I live in Middletown. Sunday at 1P I was driving down a usual route for me, one side of the road is a large field where deer graze and on the other is a deep wooded area, with an actual path worn by the deer as they cross the road. I always go slow because no matter what time of day, the deer might be crossing. I spotted this large animal, larger than a german shephard(we've owned them so I am familiar with them), but grey, walking across the same area of road from the field to the woods and up the deer path. He had a large low tail like a shephard, but legs up straight not the way a shephard almost crouches when they walk. He was longer and taller than a shephard and a color I have never seen on a domestic animal. I stopped my car in the area of the path but no longer could see the animal. And frankly it was so big that I didn't want to get out of my car. I don't see how it could be anything else but a wolf. Am I crazy? I have seen coyotes but they are small animals around here. Date Posted: 20:07:12 05/29/06 Mon I believe there is a dead grey wolf on the exit ramp to Mohegan Sun casino. I drove by it, and it was much larger and furrier than a coyote, and much more muscular and wider muzzle. [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |

Date Posted: 16:23:42 03/18/07 Sun Driving by an abandoned farm and this animal came galloping across the road. This animal had a wide muzzle, long tail and was larger than a german shepard and had a greyish coat. It looked very healthy. [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |

Date Posted: 21:22:25 11/12/06 Sun I used to breed shepherds and I know what they look like too. I have huge coyotes where I live now. They aren't wolves. They trot silently along the road at night. They catch the rodents that live in the rock walls around here. If you open your door at the right time you can see them not ten feet from you. I haven't heard of anyone being hurt by them though they'll stare you down. Wolves are actually timid and will hide from humans. If you want to see a good photo go to puppyfind.com under shepherd and there is a breeder of them. You can see right away from the face that its a wolf. [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |

Date Posted: 08:02:09 07/04/07 Wed wow heidi thats so wierd. Yeah last night i found about a foot long bass in my backyard that had been eaten out and all that was left was head, back bone and tail. It had very large teeth marks in it. Then later on that night i found a huge footprint coming out of my pond. It was too large to be a fox or a coyote so i did research and it found out that it was a wolf. And there was also small baby prints next to it. About three years before today, i swore that i saw two grey wolves running together in the woods but was unsure if they were wolves i have never seen them in Ct before! Response? ... 7/4/07 [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |

Date Posted: 19:03:55 06/10/05 Fri >Does anyone know if there are any reports of wolves >being found in CT, New England. Any at all? I was just searching the web trying to find information about whether there were wolves in CT and found this site. Tonight driving home (~9:30) I saw what i believe was a wolf crossing the road in front of me. I was going fairly slow because there are always opposum crossing the road there...i hit my brakes and swerved to let him go by, he turned looked at my car and then ran off through the field. I was in Enfield heading backroads towards Somersville where there are a lot of horse farms. I've seen coyotes and this animal was at least 2-3 times the size of any coyote I've seen. I'm positive it was not a dog. My headlights illuminated him fairly well and he looked to have a light gray-dark white bottom and a gray top, a large bushy tail hanging low, his head was straight up, not hanging down like most dogs do, and I would guess he weighed 70-90 lbs. Just like the other person I thought I was going crazy. I can't seem to find much information about wolves here in CT except for a lot of sites saying there are none. Date Posted: 06:36:10 08/21/06 Mon I also saw the dead wolf on the exit ramp by Mohegan Sun. I thought it was a large coyote at first but couldn't believe they could be that big. Now I'm convinced it was wolf because somebody report seeing one on our street. They called the Mystic Nature Center and without telling them where he lived the Nature Center knew he lived in Ledyard. [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |

Date Posted: 07:04:47 09/20/06 Wed On Sunday 9/17 my husband and I were working in our yard (In Waterford CT) when what we believed to be a wolf came trotting through our yard. We often get coyotes but this was MUCH larger. He came from the area by our pond and exited the open area to the woods. [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |

My husband, son, and myself were heading towards Rte 214 on Whalehead Rd. last night and we saw a wolf cross the road right in front of us. We were just north of the Avonlea Conservancey property. It crossed the road then stopped on the other side in the woods and turned to look at us. We got a really good look, and it was definately a wolf. [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |

I saw a wolf about 1 month ago in the Quaker Hill area. There was no mistaking this awesome creature. I knew the minute we locked eyes that I was looking at something other than a coyote and definately NOT a dog. My neighbor across the street has also seen it. We both thought we were crazy because everyone said there was no way there were wolves in our part of the country, nevermind our town. I did manage to shoot a picture, and of course it was blurry, with no picture of the wolf. (sigh) Maybe someday I will manage to get a good shot of this wolf and be able to post it. On a side note, someone has spotted what they said was a grizzly bear in our area, but I suspect it was a black bear. (entirely possible in my opinion!) [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |

Date Posted: 04:31:31 01/17/08 Thu >Does anyone know if there are any reports of wolves >being found in CT, New England. Any at all? I deliver newspapers early every morning in North Haven and Hamden. This morning, about 4:30, I pulled off Ridge Road in North Haven and down a long driveway toward a house deep in the woods.I immediately saw two animals in the drive and thought they were fox which I see in this area often. As my headlights shown on them, I realized they were not fox or coyotes, but two dogs. They walked off the drive and stopped as I drove up to them slowly. I pulled up next to them, about five feet away. They were not dogs, but definitely wolves or possibly a wolf/dog hybrid.I have been an amateur student of wolves for many years, and have read much on the subject. One was male about 80 to 100 lbs.,the other female, about 10 to 20 lbs. lighter. The female slipped into the woods quickly out of my sight, but the male stayed his ground, observing me for about 15 to 20 seconds before walking away.I got a very good close look at him,and if he was not a wolf, I'll eat my hat. Date Posted: 11:35:03 02/04/08 Mon About 2 weeks ago at 2:30 in the afternoon I was backing out of my driveway and started to pull forward and saw 2 large wolves they were dark brown with black in the middle and big yellow eyes both staring at me about 90 to 100 lbs. 10 feet away I'm glad I was in my car. Haven't seen them since but they are working on the power lines across the street and digging up large holes. Thats where they ran to. I look up timber wolves and that is exactly what I saw. I live in Orange. [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |

Date Posted: 13:49:46 03/22/08 Sat Twice now my husband has seen a wolf in our back yard. We called animal control who insists that it's a coyote. It ran in front of my husband. It was chasing a deer. It ran right infront of him, stopped, turned to look at him and then continued after the deer. He said that it was hip high to him when it went by him. He was afraid for his life it was so big, but animal control doesn't want to believe it was a wolf. Yesterday, he saw it again. This time he got pictures. I think the DEP may be wrong. There appear to be wolves in CT [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |

Date Posted: 14:55:49 03/23/08 Sun #1 My husband saw a small wolf on Flood Road in Marlborough, CT, it trotted alongside his car for about 4oo feet so he had a good long look at him. He was very mangy but much more hair than a coyote and being a German Shepherd lover, he knew it wasn't a GS. He called me and told me what he had just seen so I called Animal Control. The ACOfficer knew exactly what I was talking about, and said the DEP would deny it if we reported it. He told us that there is a white colored Gray Wolf and a black colored Grey Wolf in the woods near my home. #2 About two weeks later while we were eating breakfast, we saw a large white "dog" about 60 feet away from our house, the beagle was barking at it and it just stood there staring at him. We quickly realized it was no dog, but a wolf. In August, before I ever heard of wolves in CT, my friend in Portland, CT saw one in her yard, (she too was letting her dog out) and it was very close to their house. She said it was not a coyote, she is a Maine native and knows what a coyote looks like. *************** The animal control officer said they wouldn't hurt us, but I have small kids and I am slightly freaked out. Not to mention that the Animal Control Officer also told us that there have been cougar sightings in the Colchester, CT area. I found out that a wolf is the cougar's only predator. A blessing in disguise? I would love to hear a theory on why DEP denies there are wolves here. [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |
