Date Posted: 09/11/05 Sun PLEASE FORWARD/CIRCULATE WIDELY WITHOUT FURTHER PERMISSION FROM THE AUTHOR - Folks - I've been asked to find out if any of you have experience with Rifton chairs being used (mis-used, that is) as restraints for kids with autism in schools. Rifton chairs were designed for use by kids with cp and other disabilities who need help sitting and being positioned appropriately. One disabilities legal center has a complaint pending due to inappropriate use of a Rifton chair to restrain a child with autism - allegedly to help the child pay attention. If you know of the use/mis-use of Rifton chairs for children with autism or any other disabilities, please let me know at: sappell@nyc.rr.com, and I'll forward the information on to the disabilities legal folk collecting information about this abuse. Thanks in advance. Dee Alpert, Publisher The Special Education Muckraker http://www.specialeducationmuckraker.com [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
