The stuff Kyle does feels wholly different from what, say, Mikey Day or Leslie would do. The things Julio Torres writes feels completely different from James Anderson or Kelly/Schneider. It gives the show a comedic variety that I appreciate. It helps keep things off-kilter and less easy to guess immediately where a sketch is going. That's a big reason I'm not a huge fan of the Wiig/Hader/Samberg era...everything felt too "samey". The fact that that era also seemed to rely the heaviest on driving reoccurring sketches into the ground definitely didn't help either. I feel like the doom and gloom people are predicting for the upcoming season is completely unfounded. The show feels the most inspiried it's felt in ages.
