I actually quite liked last season, though I don't think it was the political material that won me over. I think this new group is nicely varied, kind of like that early-90s transition period - stalwarts and specialists working side by side. That said, SNL kind of operates at a C+ level in general, so a strong season is probably only a B. But in terms of recent great seasons I would say 16-17, 12-13 (great new additions and Sudeikis and Hader doing some of their finest work), 08-09 (powerhouse political year), 06-07 (new group coming into their own while Forte hits his zenith).

I don't expect Mackinnon to last after this year, especially since, I believe, her 7 season contract began in the 11-12 season.
