'NCIS: LA' on Hunt for good woman

Oscar winner Linda Hunt has joined CBS' new drama series "NCIS: LA" as a regular.

The veteran actress will fill the void left by the departure of Louise Lombard, who co-starred in the pilot of the procedural toplined by LL Cool J and Chris O'Donnell. The series is set at the Office of Special Projects, a division of NCIS charged with the apprehending dangerous and elusive criminals who pose a threat to national security.

The switch is not a direct recasting sa Hunt will play a new character on the CBS Studios-produced series, a spinoff of its hit "NCIS."

Hunt's character oversees the "backroom" support staff in charge of providing everything from micro-surveillance cameras to cars for Callen (O'Donnell) and his team. Efficient, hard-nosed and resourceful after years of being a Miss Fix-It in the film industry, she seems tough but genuinely cares about Callen and his men.

In the pilot, Lombard played a major in the military police-turned-investigator.

WME-repped Hunt, who won an Oscar for "The Year of Living Dangerously," recently recurred on CBS' "Without a Trace." She had recurring roles on "The Practice" and "Carnivale."

WHY would they replace Louise Lombard AKA MAce with Linda Hunt? That doesn't make any sense at all. If they were gonna replace Louise FINE but why pick someone Waaaay different than the character MACE. Weird!
