  I recently received the first season of NCIS on dvd in the mail. I am really enjoying this because I had not seen any of the first season.I think that if I had watched the show from the very begining I would have had a much harder time making the transition from Kate to Ziva.
  
  I was noticing on the cover of the dvd that Michael Weatherly is missing exactly half of his face. What is up with that? It seems to be a trend on the cover of dvd's? I noticed on the cover of the Remington Steele dvd that part of Pierce Brosnon's face is also missing. Is this some "cool" art that I have missed out on?

  I just recently finished watching season 1 on DVD, and in the opening scene of the finale, Gibbs walks into the morgue, walks over to the table with a body bag on it, opens it up, and it's Kate, with a bullet in her head. Was that just an eery coincidence, or had she already planned on leaving after the end of season 2? Any why did I just figure this out now? LOL

  • Sasha Alexander did not ask to be written out until March 2005, sometime around when DPB took a vacation to Australia and was preparing to write the season finale. (from Kate O'Hare's two articles "'NCIS': Kate Out, Aussie In?" and "'NCIS': Ends with a Death" and Ask Ausiello from June 1, 2005. My guess is that DPB decided to kill Kate in "Twilight" in such a way to mirror "Reveille" (that's easy to do, after the fact), rather than "Reveille" being evidence that SA wanted out (because she didn't ask out until almost a year later) (NT) -- Debby, 15:39:43 08/08/06 Tue

      • I think you're right that Gibbs' nightmare was supposed to be prescient (in terms of the NCIS world); for me, at least, it's the only way it explains Ari's weird transformation from this sort of Machiavellian, suave spy to a guy who's got a daddy vendetta. Within the NCIS fictional canon world, it totally works. But the original question seemed to be asking if SA had wanted out before the end of Season 1, and that "Reveille" and "Twilight" were done in tandem (to give a season-long Kate exit) rather than "Twilight" drawing on "Reveille".   I just recently discovered this series. I know it ran on, I think, SciFi a few years back, but I never caught it on the tube. So I decided to rent it from NetFlix. Boy am I glad I did.
  
  Michael Weatherly plays Logan, a do-gooder with a semi-dark streak who was paralyzed as a result of one of his good deeds (trying to protect a witness against the corrupt politicians). Jessica Alba (in her break out role) plays Max, a genetically engineers soldier who begrudgingly helps Logan and becomes his friend and potential lover (I haven't gotten beyond disk 2 yet).
  
  This is the character I think many of us would like to see Tony become. Not the wheelchair bound part, but a smart, sexy, compassionate and non-(overtly)sexist man. There's a look in Logan's eyes when he watches Max that makes you realize that he cares and wants her, but there's nothing overt about it. He doesn't deny it if pressed, but won't make snarky comments to her or about her or about other women. He's also flawed, but not in the "I want to kick your butt from here to Sunday" kind of way that I think many of us would like to do with Tony.
  
  Don't get me wrong, I like Tony. I think his goofiness and snarky comments are appropriate for the character and the situation he's in. But I know I'm not alone in thinking that he doesn't need to be so "in your face" about thinking with his pecker all the time. Some of the time, if used judiciously, I don't care if guys do that. But all the time? Even my tolerance level is getting saturated.
  
  So, if you haven't seen Dark Angel, you might want to check it out. It was produced by James Cameron and isn't half bad. Too bad the network canceled it after only two seasons.

  • KatRose, I too found Dark Angel and tape/ then watch it. It is on Sci Fi and I really enjoy it. I agree that I like MW in both roles but Logan is more interesting in that there is a lot more to him than meets the eye. There also is a palpable chemistry between his and the "Max" character. I know too that they really were a couple, but beyond that...It's funny, but I can see little elements in what would become Tony in the Logan character. Though I do find Logan a little too reserved- but I wouldn't have noticed it has I watched the series when it first aired. I think there will have to be some change in Tony now that he has to lead the team. There will be no time for goofing around, and he will have to self-direct rather than being directed. I think this is a perfect opportunity for the writers to expand on the Tony character and develop a new direction for him. (NT) -- mtnchick388, 17:46:21 08/12/06 Sat

  OK, I really want to buy a couple of shows from Google or itunes, but really DO NOT want to watch them on my computer, which is in an office too far from my clean laundry that needs sorted. Can I buy them on-line and burn them to DVD? Also if I buy from Google, where do they go in my computer? (I'm guessing windows media player) What about itunes, will I be able to get those onto a DVD? Sorry if this is way too easy for you computer people. I still have a Commador 64 brain in a Pentium world.

  • As far as I know you can't burn iTunes video (TV, movie, whatever) to DVD. They use proprietary software that prevents moving the program to another kind of media.   According to TVShowsOnDVD.com NCIS Season 2 will be released November 14. Here's their news release:
  
  With yesterday's announcement that JAG - The Complete 2nd Season is coming to DVD on 11/7, it's no surprise that Paramount/CBS is also announcing the 2nd Season DVD release of spin-off series NCIS: Naval Criminal Investigation Service, starring Mark Harmon.
  
  November 14th is the ship date for this 6-DVD set with 23 episodes, including Audio Commentaries by cast and crew on select episodes, and also Behind-the-Scenes Featurettes among the extras. Sasha Alexander appears in her final season among the cast, and guest stars include Grammy Award-winning singer Mya and legendary Hollywood character actor Charles Durning (Tootsie, Dog Day Afternoon, Best Little Whorehouse In Texas).
  
  Running 16 hours, 47 minutes, the presentation is Widescreen video with both Dolby Digital English Stereo Surround and Spanish Stereo Surround for the audio. The release is closed captioned.

  I just finished with the first DVD last night. Has anyone else noticed just how much Gibbs smiled in the first season? I have to say I was a little shocked at how much it happened. I guess they had to let Gibbs to be a liked character then develop the more complex elements of his character. In Yankee White he was almost easy to deal with. I know that in the following seasons he has some really rough stuff happen to him but I have to say I like the smiling Gibbs. He lends himself more to "eyecandy" that way and IMHO is more sexy. I have also noticed that he only shows his likable side to ABBY on a regular basis. This should breed some interesting conversation. 1,2,3 GO!

  • Writers go back earlier than actors. I believe the actors go back July/Aug and the show opens in mid-Sept. But I have no hard references for this information, *those* you'll have to look for (perhaps check out the Yahoo group and see what Harriet may have said on this subject.) It appears that what they're doing is giving a name to the pilot episode ... and assuring their customers that the pilot episode (the first episode of the SERIES) is included on the disk.   My brother's future father-in-law is a NCIS Special Agent and he said that the show is very accurate. After watching the special clips on the D.V.D.'s they made the remark that DPB strives for accuracey between the show and real live.
  
  However I noticed that in NCIS Tony, McGhee, and Ziva have been involed as the suspect in an investigation. On JAG Harm, Bud, Mac, and Cheggwiggon were all involved in Aritical 31 hearing or an accutal court marshell.
  
  My question is if the shows are accurate (meaning not a whole lot of Hollywood, but some) is this DPB writting or is this a true reflection of the real live JAG or NCIS world.
  
  I have not met my brother's future father-in-law yet and that is why I have the questions here.

  • If these types of situations are even semi-typical (i.e. agents being investigated for crimes they may have committed), then the show(s) take those situations and telescope them into one unit and a few individuals. I don't doubt that there are agents or military officers who have been the focus of an investigation, but I seriously doubt that every member of a unit has been investigated over the course of a few years (with the exception of some combat units or interrogation units as we've recently seen in real life).   According to everything I have seen about T.V. shows they have to be on the air for five or more seasons so that they can be sold in sidication. Since they have released the complete first season of NCIS at the end of the third season, it not that not a way of saying they are already planning on at least a fifth season of the show.   • While I think we can be sure of getting a fifth season, being released in syndication is not the same as being released on DVDs. DVDs come out fairly quickly (and NCIS has actually been slower than some other shows). As for syndication, I heard USA will probably be showing them starting 2008.   • DVD releases and syndication are two different things in the scheme of Hollywood dollars. One is going after the hard core fans (DVDs) who want to watch their shows over and over again without having to wait for it to air on TV somewhere.   Ok, here's a point to ponder since we have all gotten over the pucker factor caused by Gibb's possible leaving... Was the slip up between Dinozzo and McGee's names when Gibbs came out of the elevator at the NCIS office a joke or a true slip? That may lead to an interesting problem next season. My husband and I have a theory that Gibbs was "briefed" by Ziva on the way over from the hospital on who was who. Head injuries are unpredictable, meaning that you never know what has been lost and what may come back- which leaves the writers a lot of license! BTW- I like seeing some of the people from the old JAG sites- at least I know the conversation will be interisting!

  • Brain injuries mess people up pretty bad. TV doesn't show it how it really is. You don't just wake up one day and u'r fine. Think of Gibbs' memory as being Swiss Cheese. Some of its there and other stuff is lost forever. (NT) -- gOth giRL †, 16:28:08 06/11/06 Sun
    • A lot depends on the brain injury. There are so many different things that can happen to a brain, even if there's no external damage to indicate what happened. Some injuries can be "fixed" with time, memory drills and attention to detail. Others can never be fixed at all. There are varying degrees of ammesia. Short-term memory can be affected by an injury or an extreme emotional situation where the person might not want to remember what happened (some rape victims experience this). Long-term memory is usually affected by severe trauma to the brain, either by external injury or brain swelling by illness or injury.       • Besides the memory issues that vary depending on the brain injury, there are other things affected as well. When my brother had his skull split from ear to ear over the top of his head after his car accident, he did recover & his memory is there, but .... it takes him a few seconds longer to spit out a sentence. Something I never notice, but he does -- that tiny little difference seems like an eternity to him. Occasionally when he's in the middle of a conversation, words will get jumbled. If it were me, you'd say I was talking to fast and my tongue got ahead of my brain, but with him, who always spoke perfectly, it's like things get a split second off from his brain to his tongue, and it takes him a second to spit something out. He gets mentally tired quicker, and sometimes (like when he's tired) he can't handle a 100 things at once, it's too overwhelming. If you didn't know of his injury, you'd never notice. But HE notices. If they're supposed to be so "great" and Gibbs is supposed such a great investigator/interregator, then why arrest the wrong guy so quickly. It really annoyed me because to ME, if the investigation/investigators were truly great, they would have done a better job than go for an obvious suspect (Harm) and astound us with finding the killer (what's his name) without any false arrests in between.             • Going after Harm from a plotline point of view didn't bother me so much; his prints were all over Singer's car, and he acted so guilty in the boardroom even Chegwidden wanted to know what was going on. It was his handwriting on the napkin they found on Singer. All the evidence pointed to Harm directly, including his unusual interest in Singer's private life. The only thing he did have going for him was a stellar reputation, and that doesn't mean much if the forensics nail you. If it hadn't been for Gibbs' gut feeling Lindsey would've gotten away with it. From a plotline sense--if we never met the JAG characters, ever--Harm would be a perfect suspect. I think the problem is that the fans have seven-plus seasons behind them when those crossovers aired, and we know Harm will never be convicted because DJE has to do the rest of the show. I think they've taken this route to boost Tony's maturity level (he's gotten very juvenile and he as already down low) by making him team leader for a while and give Gibbs something other than smacking the team upside the head when they're not working hard enough.   Michael Weatherly (Tony DiNozzo), answers: Executive producer Don Bellisario didn't give us the script pages until the day before we shot the final scenes. I knew it was going to be a shocker, but I had no clue it was Gibbs who would be leaving. Until then everybody in the cast had their own theory - or feary - since we all live infear of Don Bellisario. He's the real drama king. I won't call him a drama queen because I don't want DiNozzo to be shot in the head next year. There is always a lot of levity on our set, but not this time. This was Gibbs leaving and it had an impact on everyone. Mark Harmon didn't really tell anyone what he was feeling about it. He is a very private person. I do know that it was intense.   If you have noticed last year when Kate was killed off the show the very next day the expainations came out as to why she had left. I have not seen or heard anything pertaining to why Mark Harmon left the show. Also I believe it was KatRose that pointed out that the doctor overseeing Gibbs has signed on to returned next season. If he is iverseeing Giibs and Gibbs left then why would he be brought back on next season. I don't think the show could support his and Jen's possible love relationship on its own.

    • David, I read posts that said what you did about Sasha making TV stops. Then I read that she *didn't* make TV show appearances, and so fans speculated that she may be coming back.
