Here is a web-site death notice for the late great Cliff Howard, our President Jefferson Davis reenactor, who regularly debated with our President Lincoln. I last saw him with his wife, Joan, at last year's annual Leatherwood, Kentucky, battle reenactment and ball; which he and Joan had attended almost every year since it had begun. Even as a Union man, I was still one among many of his fans. For years, we have listened to and viewed his professional performances and taken pictures of him. As Varina Davis, Joan introduced him and President Lincoln, giving her own professional presentation for historical context. We saw him for the very last time at last year's Leatherwood Reenactment. Cliff Howard was a real trouper, an exemplary example of how the show must go on, dancing, debating, speaking and answering questions while using an oxygen tank to breath between taking breaks to discreetly do so. Mr. Howard was smart and knew his President Davis part by heart. We want to give him and Joan credit in a forthcoming future issue of East Kentucky Magazine.
