So all day, I've been thinking about 272 and I wondered if I could remember all the names of the kids in class from K-6. It wasn't too hard considering we all stayed together for all those years. Here's what I came up with off the top of my head. (If you're on the list, feel free to say hi. If you're not on the list put yourself on there, and sorry for leaving you out.)
Michael Brandman - Always my brother!
Brian Cherry - I think secretly, I wanted to be him.
Russell Freidberg - Mr. Sweatpants
Michelle Getlin
Julie Lamb - My 272 crush, but I was mean to her in JHS.
Pamela Goldstein
Natasha Cook - The only black person in our class. I don't know how they managed to only have one black person in the "gifted" program for 7 years. A lot of us didn't deserve to be there for one year.
Sarita Waba
Deidre Lopez - I think she was the first to get boobs.
Shawn Richelson - I slept at his house once, and his mom went totally ballistic on his little brother for bothering us. I felt bad because she gave him a pretty good beating.
Heather Goldberg
Karen Macklin
Nick Fortunato - We had some good times in Albany.
Richie Weiner - I wonder why we never realized his name was Dick Weiner.
Brandon Amchin aka Erwin Beez
Jennifer Barberio - I punched her in the face on a bus trip to the Planetarium. Sorry!
Brian Pitti - The other guy from the projects. ("I'm Nut Barry")
Erik Turk - "My father works in Radio Shack. Where does your father work, the sewer?"
Jason Morris - We'd compete to see who drew the best ninja scenes and sell them.
Andy Feller - I bet he's a lawyer or something. Good guy.
Laurie Weisenfeld - Andy's cousin. I think she moved to Hawthorne or something.
David Skylar - Completely insane… liked to stab people with pencils n stuff.
Robert Leonardo - Short timer with a bowl hair cut.
A girl named Michael
Joshua Sacco - Never really part of the gang. Sorry dude.

I am looking for my former friends and classmates up until 1984. Some of the teachers were Ms. Schneider, Ms. Hecker, Ms. Navre, and Ms. Stewart. Mr. Isman was the principal. I moved to NJ that summer, and I never got to say goodbye. If any of you are reading this, I still remember many of you, and I love and miss you so much.
Off the top of my head, I remember Jason, Todd, Mark, Bryce, Erin, another Jason, and a bunch of others. Memories have faded, but these were very important years for me. Please contact me at paulswebdiscount@yahoo.com
Graduated a NJ high school in 1995 just so you know if we WOULD HAVE been in the same classes. My heart is still in Canarsie if anyone I did not know wants to contact me. I miss it dearly, and its been so many years.

- PS 272 - class of 1973 school boycott -- shopgirl, 11:55:14 01/29/06 Sun (cache-rtc-ab05.proxy.aol.com/152.163.100.69)
I just stumbled across this site and I am laughing...I left Canarsie, sadly in my teenage yrs- I moved in the middle of 9th grade to Long Island- I lived in the neighborhood no one ever talks about on this site- it had no name, it was behind seaview park, and near the Belt- east 93 between skidmore and schenk...they never knew where to send us to school..the italian kids went to st jude on the corner, I went to Kindergarten at PS 115, then I guess there was no room there, so then it was off to 272, my neighborhood was zoned for Bildersee which I was really looking forward to but then some bus load complete with a reverend parked itselfoutside one of our schools saying they had to go to school in Canarsie, and would drive up every day resulting in a school boycott for us, but finally and I don't know why, they were allowed to come to our schools despite the fact they lived in Brownsville, and sure enough my area was rezoned and I had to go to 211, so that meant some kids on the block were in bildersee, some in st jude and some in 211, so the kid friendships all ended. I always asked why we had to rezone our community for the benefit of kids who didn't live there, and could never understand the whole thing...Anyway, here's a list of my teachers
1st grade- Mrs Navre- very sweet- took the place of some horrible witch named Mrs Horlick- ended up being a nice calm year for us
2nd grade- Mrs Bernstein
3rd grade- Mrs Rosenzweig- young pretty and placed me in the IGC the next year
4th grade- Mrs Bernstein- in 2nd grade she was ok but this year something was up- wshe was absent every day- we did nothing all year and had tons of subs- all the smart kids were in this class - mary ann was my best friend
5th grade- Mrs Feinberg- I think her daughter died that year and she just could not handle things- we then had Mrs Taylor
6th grade-Mrs Tessler- bad year- I was dying to get off to JHS she treated us like babies, and was very strict- now I see why 6th grade is no longer in elementary school

I just wanted to chime in on my 272 memories:
The teachers I had:
K - Mrs. Persky
1 - Mr. Schmerler (She would sleep in class and Ms. Salvo took over for her mid year)
2 - Ms. Salvo
3 - Mr. Gordon
4 - Mrs. McCabe
5 - I think Mrs. Kruger
6 - Mrs. Wendt
I don't know if that's 100% accurate but that's the best I can do.
Mr. Isman was Principal, Mrs. Zatz was Vice, Bea Seligman was in charge of the AV Squad (I was Captain - woot!), there was that other lady with the really crooked fingers that worked as a lunchroom aide (before aides were AIDS). I remember Mrs. Sklar (We called her Sklarsky and Hutch... dumb, I know). I remember every winter having our annual Moon Boot awards for the person with the ugliest winter boots. I remember fights in the lunchroom and kids chanting "ooh ooh ooh". I remember Mr. Isman in his forest green leisure suit, singling out some poor fool in the Auditorium and saying "You, clown... OUT!" He'd point, and give a thumbs out gesture... and always, the wrong kid would think it was him and say "Who me?" and start crying. I remember some kid closing the door on their finger and chopping it off and Tommy the Janitor had to clean it up and... well... ewwwww. I remember beating up Joey Fortunato for stepping on my new suede Pumas with the fat laces. I remember everyone yelling at Diedre Lopez till she cried because she gave out Christmas cards when the whole class was Jewish. I remember playing off the wall, kill the man with the ball, and manhunt in the playground before class and after lunch. That was also my home field for stickball for many years. Speak up if you remember me kicking your *** in stick ball (that's for Harold if he ever sees this). I remember stealing 75 cents from my mom's coat pocket so I could go to 3 Guys Luncheonette to have a flat hamburger fries and a coke, then my mom came to school, pulled me out of class and started calling me a thief in the middle of the hallway. That was fun. I also remember white shirt assembly with thin black leather ties, Color Guard, and watching movies like "Condor Man”, Ole’ Yeller", “Benji”, and various Dr. Sesus titles in the auditorium. Does anyone remember our class play "Super Santa and Star Wars" or beating the teachers in the Teacher / Student softball game? Hell, I can go on and on... but I'll stop here. Hope that drummed up a few memories for you all. I'm out!

I would love to get a message to Mrs. Goldstein the Kindergarten teacher from P.S. 272.
She was one of those special teacher's who "touch lives "
that it stays with you forever. I had her in 1961. I was a helper in her classroom in 1967, when I was in 6th grade.
I teach Pre- school now and it's because she had a great influence on my life
I remember her sitting at the Piano singing
Clean up time, Clean up time
Everyone helps at Cleanup time ...
I now use that little tune in my classes
If she can read or know of this message, I just want to say Thank you from the bottom of my heart

HAMBERGER< she always wore her dyed black hair in a big bun on her head, a big Hairburger bun, she was old wore lots of big jewelery and red lipstick and she was always yanking some kid to the frount of the room and trying to put them over her knee to spank them, I remember two kids fought her off, One a real tall girl Carroll who I think lived in Lynn Sussers building in Bayview.,she was too wirey and fast and strong for this old broad and threatened to tell her mommy! another was this boy Georgie, he really fought her off he was little but really angry that the teacher wanted to humiliate him., he was small so with much struggel she finally got a hold of Georgie but once on her lap as she was about to spank him and even yank his pants down he really put up a fight and suddenly Mrs Hamberger and Georgie and the chair went toppeling backwards as everyone screamed in laughter, she couldnt get up her legs were straight up in the air and her skirt down over her face! We all saw her underwear, old lady stuff a girdle! Georgie jumped up and screamed Im gonna tell my Dad on you and he's gonna come in and get you!No one helped Mrs Hamberger she took a long time to struggle up and the class was wild with laughter. We used to say that she was married to Mr Hot Dog. She was a crazy old bitch and she had a weird smell of old perume and moth balls. I was afraid of her but she never yelled at me, in fact since I was known as a good artist I was allowed by her to use as many and every single color ewhen we painted, instead of just one color and white so we could learn to mix shades, She's lucky she wasnt my 5th grade teacher, by then I wasnt so afraid of teachers!
Whatever happened to this witch! did any of you out there have her? Did she spank you? or did you see her go after someone? I was in her class around 1957 ( Woooo seems like yesterday wow,) I tell you if a teacher ever put a hand on my kids Id go nuts! Id report them to the cops and Id smack them in the head! Imagine pulling a kids pants down, girls and boys and spanking them. This lady should of taught in catholic school!
On the bright side anyone remember Mrs Durushkin 4th grade, she was the best, she had a blonde bubble hair-do and she always had parties and gave out candy, She was very loving patient and kind, everyone prayed to get in her class, everyone LOVED her, She lived on 104th or 5th Street and we visited her at her house over the summer since we missed her. Next year I had Mr Desser 5th grade and he was always Loosing it and screaming. I once snuck in a little tape recorder and taped him screaming, later that afternoon I played tiny bits of it back and he FREAKED but never found out, no one ratted me out( thank you fellow former classmates!) and I did it a few times, I also got sent home for wearing jeans and pants to school or too short skirts, also I once wore pajamas to school flannel ones like a dress, I thought it looked good but I dont think the school board appreciated my impromtu style- non style! If they only saw the way kids look now blue spikey mowhawks, percings, belly shirts! tattoos, and thats the 10 year olds!

Class of 1994 -- Judy L., 19:49:31 04/22/04 Thu (NoHost/141.158.234.197)
Hey,
I randomly typed in Canarsie in google and found this site! I would like to know what everybody is up to from my class. Brings back good memories and how I didn't learn anything in the fifth grade except mixed operations. Here are the teachers I had:
pre-k: Ms. Major & Ms. Hecken
k: Ms. Navre
1: Ms. Schneider
2: Ms. Stillman (she always seemed kind of boozed)
3: Ms. Abbatemarco (had a thing for the janitor?)
4: Mr. Gutterman (nervous short man complex)
5: Ms. Rachwal (a nutjob)
Anyway, I remember the good old days when I was very naive about the world and sometimes I wish I was still in those days. Tracy, I remember you :D (email jul4@lehigh.edu) I remember harassing a boy during recess everyday w/ my girlfriends. I remember getting pulled off the lunch line for talking during the Vice Principal's speeches. I remember a girl punching me on the lunch line to get in front me and me being too afraid to fight back, but I didn't budge either. I remember my favorite activity in the second grade was cutting hearts. I remember always inverting my drinking straws and wondering why I couldn't punch a hole into the juicebox. I remember how Ms. Rachwal would fall all over Mr. Dunaway the journalism teacher and not teach us anything. I remember handing in a book report without ever reading the book. Fun times. Fun times. Ok, hope someone remembers me!

- HS Reunion 1982 - 1986 -- Canarsie66, 17:14:21 01/10/04 Sat (cache-dl10.proxy.aol.com/205.188.209.46)
Anyone interested in attending a double Canarsie HS/South Shore HS reunion?
The idea is to make it a jumbo reunion for the ultra good-looking and cool classes of 1982 - 1986, as we all have extremely busy lives. (Inclusion of 1981 & up to 1988 is also an option).
Plus, our neighborhood didn't promote the best school spirit, so this way we can guarantee at least 200 - 300 people attending.
Tables can be set up according to HS & graduating year.
Those who didn't graduate CHS or SSHS for whatever reason(but who would have in those years) are also invited.
If interested, let me know via email at Canarsie66@aol.com.
If the response rate is decent, I'll seriously start planning this for a Saturday night, either in January, 2005, or July, 2005.
This way, some of you have some time to lose 20 pounds,
work out, get lipo and hair transplants:-)
This reunion concept depends on the feedback I get.
We'll have it somewhere nice, either in NYC (either a hotel ballroom like the Hilton, Marriott or Sheraton, or a cool lounge-type place like Metronome).
Email me with your thoughts & ideas.
Put "Canarsie Reunion" in the subject line so I don't delete your email.
