Wouldn't it be easier to get some suitably sized 0.5mm thick washers put these under the nuts. It would even be possible to use washers with the same outside diameter as the Jabiru nuts and file a flat on one edge of the washers to clear the cylinder base flange radius. This would result in the same contact area (and thus load spread) as Jabiru originally intended.


There's a good (and very interesting) video of the cylinder base nuts in the following U tube clip.

I just wondered if the tinking noise in the video is similar to that which Howard hears in his engine on start-up, and whether Roger thinks that the base nut modification would cure the tinking problem :-)

PS Howard, if the sound is similar to the start up noise on your engine let me know and I'll post suggested cures for the tinking problem as I spot them on Yahoo Jabiru Engines website.
