Subject: Town Meeting

NH+ had many things to complain about regarding the recent Town Meeting last Tuesday, one of them being that the old building fee schedule was not provided in order to compare with the new proposed building fees. I don't know what meeting she was at, but I received both the old and the new fee schedules for comparison purposes.

NH+ also complains that the Capell's put a chain across the Old Dirt Rd, thereby limiting access. What wasn't written was that Mrs. Capell spoke at the meeting and said why this is, that the road is impassable due to it not being maintained, and that at the end is an 8 foot bridge with no sides. Mrs. Capell is simply being a responsible resident and trying to prevent any serious injuries.

The road grader was also questioned, why wasn't it being paid for out of Capital. It was explained to her that it would have been in the Capital budget, and thereby subject to being paid for by this year's tax dollars, however, this was an opportunity to purchase a needed piece of equipment without extra expense to the taxpayers. Remember, the "editor" at NH+ pitched using all of the CRRA money to pay for a Social Services director.

NH+ also complains about this being a "hurried affair". I, for one, am glad that the meeting did go on until midnight. I have to work the next day. I felt that this was a concise, and time effective, Town Meeting.

Lastly, I thought it presumptuous of the Ruwet's attorney to ask the residents of New Hartford to vote no on the Old Dirt Road issue. This was the intent of the Town in 1967 to not maintain (abandon) the road, and it is still the intent of the Town today.
