Last night, I was shocked to hear this story being hijacked and distorted by the press. It almost had me wondering who the schizophrenic was: the shooter or the news organizations. The facts so far sound like this: young man with severe delusions and obsessive thinking flips out and assassinates his congressional rep and a whole lot of people who happen to be in the area. And now it's all about 'civil discourse.'

Now, I'm definitely an advocate of softer, kinder speech, but there's something about how this sad event is being used to point fingers at people in the political arena that feels very wrong to me.

>I watched Newshour last night and they had two
>"experts" discussing the Arizona shooting along with
>Shields and Brooks. The so-called experts were a Penn
>professor and a Yale Professor. Shields and the two
>professors seem to think that uncivil speech caused,
>or contributed to the shooting. Brooks thought
>otherwise. Brooks was right.

>Liberals tend to go hogwild when they see a chance to
>shut down people who disagree with them. In the case
>of the Arizona shooting, the favorite target now is
>Sarah Palin. But as Brooks said, "I don't really care
>much for the Teaparty or Sarah Palin, but neither of
>them had anything to do with this shooting."
>
>The shooter here wasn't reacting to a call to arms by
>the teaparty, of if he was, there is certainly no
>evidence of it at this point. God knows what this nut
>job was reacting to. Perhaps, someone around Giffords
>wore the wrong color vest, or someone used improper
>grammar. In fact, the latter is more likely, given his
>obsession with grammar, than that the Teaparty or
>Sarah Palin inspired him.

>The guy is a fruit loop. He is nutzoid, mad as a
>hatter, crazy, or however you want to say this. His
>actions were the result of some obscure connection
>that only he knows about, and probably only he could

>
>Liberals using this incident to try to shut down free
>speech, is as crazy as this whole incident is.
>
>Therefore, do not succumb to this liberal onslaught.
>Say what you think, however, that may offend. Do not
>be guilted into modulating your ideas simply because
>the political correctniks want you to.

>You have a right to say what you think. But on this
>board, at least you should sign your name.

>>>I am deeply saddened by the shootings in Tucson,

>>>But, I am stunned by the many statements which are
