When I was at Penn, I was not a vegetarian, but am now. Yes, I did eat cheese steaks then, as well as soft pretzels, hoagies and other Philly delicacies while at Penn. Since I have been veggie since the 70's, I don't remember how cheese steaks tasted, and don't miss them. However, Philly did have a unique cusine, and I enjoyed it while there. The food at Penn wasn't exactly gourmet, however, although compared with other schools it probably was relatively decent.

Yes, Girl's High and Central were unique. I remember in my freshman calculus course about one third of the class had come from Central. Not only did they have two years of calculus while in high school, they used the same book we used at Penn. That was a rough course. But it eventually convinced me that high school was unnecessary, so when we got to that point with our kids, we skipped high school and sent the kids to community college. My son, who is now 18 just went back to UConn to start his senior year yesterday. My daughter, who is 15 will get her associates degree Spring 2011. We have to then decide what to do with her, since 15 may be too young to live in a dorm. (Or is it?) I really think high school has become superfluous. With your experience at one of the best high schools in the country, you may not agree with that, however.
