WINSTED — The Region 7 Board of Education is seeking a new member to fill the seat of New Hartford First Selectman Daniel Jerram.

Jerram served as a New Hartford representative on the regional board for many years before he was elected.

He said that it was time consuming to be on the school board and work as first selectman, and he said that Board of Education needs representatives who can commit fully to the responsibilities.

“We want to have someone up there who can dedicate full time,” Jerram said.

The board and the town continue to search for a candidate, and Jerram said, they may have a candidate in mind. However, nothing has been concluded and the board has not released the name of any proposed candidates.

Once a candidate is selected, Jerram said that the town of New Hartford needs to vote on his replacement, since Jerram’s seat on the board represents the entire town of New Hartford’s voice in school board decisions.

The New Hartford vote on the Region 7 board is weighted as the largest vote because it is the largest of the four towns in Region 7, which also includes Barkhamsted, Colebrook and Norfolk.
